| ![]() Our city is kicking around the idea of a city license for breeding ($20) and a fee of $100 per litter. A nearby city has put this ordinance in place and it has cut down on the number of puppies that are brought to the shelter. I have to say....YA THINK?....but the number of puppies that are tied in a sack and thrown in the river has gone way up. The number of pregnant mothers that are dumped in the country to fend for themselves has gone way up. And the best part is you are exempt if you are inspected by a government agency....so if you are USDA licensed....breed away.

![]() ![]() But I agree that the laws need to change and the puppy mills need to be shut down. Just because they have USDA license shouldn't give them free reign...

I do not go along with laws being passed to make anyone spay/neuter their pet this should be an individuals choice and not a law passed to be made to do so. This mandatory spay/neuter law was passed several years ago in our area, we did not want to have Baby Blessing spayed but was made to do so. Not right. Due to this law being passed in our area, we're aware of people not getting their dogs shots at all nor taking them to the vets, so they can avoid being made to spay/neuter. In not getting the neccessary shots is not good for the pets. The strays on the streets have not lessened in fact it seems to be worse to us. We are moving to another state and hopefully it will be one that doesn't have these stupid laws passed. All this law is doing here is making responsable pet owners to become liars and irresponsable to the well being of their pets. When I protested to the county about getting Baby Blessing spayed I was told face fines ( and were fined ) and after six months possable go to jail. Come on big brother in government where are the priorites? The jails are over flowing now so where they gonna put us Lil Ole Grannies, in the kichen making soups for all dem bad guys? Sorry but guess I have to put a little humor in this sad situation or my BP would be sky rocketing. By the way in order for spay, rabi shot is neccessary, rabi shot can't be given till 4 months of age and the spay is required at four months............very small ones at four months are too tiny and then the county has the right to put our beloved pets life at risk. This is upsetting to me. We love all dogs and cats but the answer to the problem lies within people being educated to the needs of control in pet population and it is not being done the right way. I generally try to stay away from posting on subjects but this one we can't help but express our view. Hugs, Patti and Jack

![]() ![]() ![]() Amen to that, but people read about it and they pass the knowledge as fact, they don't bother to check it out for themselves, and see what the law really will do. Lobbyists working especially hard to defeat this bill were groups that call themselves sporting dog enthusiasts. These groups have close ties to the popular sport of dog fighting, and they sure don't want government breathing down their necks. Please all you ethical breeders, make sure you know what the bill says before you automatically dismiss it. I know some Pet organizations want to do away with all breeding, but don't let the fear of these groups keep good bills from being passed.

| ![]() Here's an interesting article about why it should NOT be passed (I understand it was already shot down), which makes some very good points. Opposition to AB 1634, CA Healthy Pets Act

| ![]() Excellent ![]() I strongly oppose all mandatory spay/neuter legislation. I believe it is MY right to decide if I want my animal to have surgery. Just because puppy mills aren't a good thing doesn't mean that I should be forced to spay or neuter my animal. There are even some questions about whether castrating males is more of a health risk than a benefit. While it can be debated either way alllll day long, this should be the owner's choice. It is a step toward population control and I just do not agree with it.

[Sidebar: Interesting to note - that we'll allow our government to legislate women's bodies, but not animals? It's a bit of a different angle here - but still related to reproduction, and kind of interesting to me. I'm not opening a can of worms, just made me think of that. *shrugs*]

| ![]() The passageof these MSN bills is a BIG WIN for PETA! I, personally hate just about everything about PETA and their agenda. Let them get one foot in the door, and there will be absolutely no breeding or pets of any kind. They would rather dogs "run free in the street" than be in loving homes. I can see this ruining an already bad economy. No dog breeders, no need for dog food providers. No dog breeders, guaranteed escalating costs of "mandatory spay/neuter" by greedy vets that will now have a steady demand. No dog breeders, no need for any health issue research. No dog breeders, no need for groomers or groomer supply businesses. No dog breeders, no need for AKC,CKC,UkC,APRi,ACA, etc. No dog breeders, no need for dog shows or events.(agility, fly ball, field) No dog breeders, no need to come to that state for dog show events, thus, no need for hotels or restaurants that support them. The list goes on and on. And amazingly enough, these bills DO NOT effect the puppy mills that supply the big chain pet stores. These stores will still be able to sell puppies.

Those who want to steal away freedom are a very patient bunch. They'll settle for a little here and a little there...counting on the idea that anyone who opposes these small intrusions will come off as alarmist. They always have some lofty goal attached, which has absolutely nothing to do with the real agenda.

Personally, I think when human behavior results in this many deaths - this is probably a perfect example when some other entity needs to step in. ![]()
