Donating YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() Well, here I am, after all that reading and reading, the time has come, Sophie has her appointment to be spayed tomorrow. I have to drop her off at 8.30 am, they already left the message on my voice mail and I need to call and confirm. I have so many question that I want to ask, but before I call, I wanted to ask my YT family for ideas on what else to ask. I know they will do blood work, since they are doing it, is there something specific I should ask for, even if it is not related to the surgery, just for my information? -Any med's I should avoid, ( pain meds.) -I already copied the anesthesia protocol - Im taking the Kiss E Collar ( Mom to Hot Rod) Whatever you think it may be important please let me know ![]()

| ![]() I think the anesthesia protocol thread covers it. There is no pain med agreed on as best. Many are worried about Rimadyl. If you are, you could ask for something else. I don't think there really is a right or wrong answer... She will probably be very lethargic when she gets home. Very normal. Ellie could barely stand for the rfirst 12 hours. Watch the incision for redness, pain, heat, and swelling (look at it as soon as possible so you will have something to compare to if there seems to be a prolblem).

| ![]() from my experience with Maggie May, I would ask them for some pain meds and when they can be given. Maggie was operated on early in the day so by the time she was home that evening, it was okay for us to give more pain meds-she was wimpering wee bit and as soon as we gave her some, she quieted right down and went to sleep. I think it depends on the time of day only because of the amount of meds in system. so I would just find out when it would be okay to give more. Best of luck to you, I can understand your anxiety. All will be well and Sophie will be good as new in no time. ![]()

| ![]() It's an NSAID that has been associated with more deaths than other pain meds. I wouldn't say it's a bad drug, it just makes some people nervous. I just wanted you to know now b/c otherwise you will probably find the info on YT right after the surgery and get nervous about giving it (happens all the time her. lol). I'd give it after a spay if that's what the vet gave, but many wouldn't. So up to you... Some prefer Metacam and others, Tramadol (but Tramadol isn't an anti-inflammatory). then there is buprenorphine, Fentanyl if pup is big enough, etc. Could just let the vet decide...

| ![]() Surgery takes 10-30 minutes (give or take) not including prep. They probably won't do it as soon as she gets there and recovery monitoring takes a couple-few hours. Some vets make them stay overngiht (which isn't recommended if nobody will be there). Owners leave for the surgery almost 100% of the time.

| ![]() I agree with Ellie Mae. I had Daisy spayed in the morning hours so I could bring her home that evening. I wasn't comfortable leaving her overnight since no one was there. I requested pain meds. to take home just incase. I never had to give her any. I requested the laser surgery healing was a lot quicker. I was a nervous wreck myself, so I know what your going through. I will say a little extra pray for you and your baby.

| ![]() Daisy has never been crated either and I have never left her at the vets before. I was so worried because no one can take care of my baby like I do ![]()
