| Agility and Tricks ~ Just For Fun Katy is now 4 months, in fact, 18 weeks old as of today. She is doing REALLLLLLLY well with House Breaking, Sitting before entering the house, Sitting for a cookie, and Coming When Called.....probably more I am not thinking of. Today I think we are going to start training with a Hula Hoop. Not jumping through....walking through....to learn that before, when the time comes, Jumping Through. (we were suppose to ride bikes today to town for breakfast, but the wind......) I also bought 6 10ish" Traffic Cones from The Dollar Tree, 2 for $1, that will work GREAT for Weaving. I will start with 3, set a part, in a row, long/short enough for a tiny dog. I would LOVE to hear, if you too, are working with your dogs with Tricks or Agility. I am just doing this for fun....and bonding. |

| This is a nice topic! Katy is a smart cookie knowing so much at only 18 weeks old I made a little barrier from styrofoam for Mike when I was teaching him to jump over. And little traffic cones for weaving too. I think it's great to do tricks/exercise at home especially in winter when we stay in more. Both for bonding and to burn this crazy yorkie energy Since our space is limited and we don't have a garden it will be great to hear ideas from other members on what else is possible to do at home. |

| There is nothing cuter then seeing wee lil dogs obeying commands and doing tricks. Ppl think these little dogs are just good for lap dogs. I adopted Cody when he was 2 1/2 years old. He is not a wee lil guy, he is 12 Lbs but tiny to me lol. He is very food motivated and learns real fast because he wants that teeny tiny Cheerio lol. He is my only yorkie I really worked with and trained obedience commands both verbal and hand commands, and a few tricks. At home there are no distractions so he does very well, all commands are done the first time I give him one. When we go on visits which is not often because family and friends are in other states, I put him through all his commands and tricks which have to be given to him a couple of times because he is in a strange place with ppl he doesn't see often and there are distractions going on, but he gets through all of them lol. The smiles and laughter he gets just melts my heart. To show ppl ya don't have to be a big dog to be smart. Starting training as puppies is ideal and great for building confidence in the dog. Good job mama's.

| That's so true. Over here people don't teach small dogs any tricks and I think the whole bonding through training is unknown to people. Our little training sessions helped Mike so much with his focus. He's also VERY food motivated like Cody so I'm lucky this way, he learns very fast if I have good treats. Every new person that meets Mike and sees him perform his little stunts are usually in a positive state of shock Last summer I was making him do a lot of those while we were outside to teach him to focus a little more cause he's very reactive and anxious in new surroundings. A person walking by told me "why are you torturing your dog this way? Let him be a dog and smell the grass and be a dog" ugggrrrrr I didn't even say anything back. Working with our pups helps them work their brains, bond with us, build confidence, strengthen focus and many more. And also its very cutttteee |

| My dad built me jumps and weave poles out of PCV pipes. He also made me a teeter board. Just make sure your not doing any of the jumping until her growth plates close.

It's good that you're training Mike outdoors where there are many distractions, it teaches him to focus on you. Ppl do not understand the importance of training at a young age. I know for myself, I didn't want to be firm with my puppies, I feared it would break their spirit, I loved their high energy and wild child ways. I have learned much over the years lol. All dogs small or large must be trained for their own safety. Keep up the good work mama it will pay off

| Here is a picture of my weave poles, a ladder my dad built so Joey could do the climb a ladder trick, Joey is expert trick dog, and I did the AKC puppy class with Ollie and he got a medal for that. We are working on getting Joey the Champion Trick dog title. Joey also hopefully will be on the performance team that our trainers have and he has been entered to do commercials and other things. I love that Joey can show that small dogs can do tricks and be well trained. Callie has a novice trick title but she is just to old for most of the things. Penny and Ollie I hope to get their trick titles soon. All four of them have their Canine Good Citizen title.

| One of the trick trainers at my trainers place is just in love with Joey. His ears kinda give him a bit of a unique look. She is a dog walker/ pet sitter and has come in contact with a lot of yorkies and said until she has seen what Joey has done and can do she never would have believed it. That’s why it was so important to me. Yorkies get a bad reputation but they are very smart.

I LOVE your equipment. Years ago I had a Troupe of 5 Dogs I took places for a little Trick Show. Mary, a Labrador Retriever, climbed a ladder. I had to laugh......VERY cute LITTLE ladder, and easier to take Yorkie off of than a Lab on a regular ladder! <makes sound like picking something heavy up, mocking herself reaching for Lab off ladder Ha Ha> Those photos of your sweet dogs with their Titles, I am sure a very precious to you now....but latter in your life, Gold! Those photos will be GOLD to you! Thanks for sharing your photos, I LOVE WHEN PEOPLE SHARE THEIR PHOTOS!

| I NEED to find a small Hoop again. For my Cats (training) I used a large embroidery hoop. I found it for cheap at a Thrift Store.....one of my favorite places to shop for Trick Props. I had a Black Lab that Played Piano in Sun Glasses....she used to win at Trick Contests doing her Impressions of.....Ray Charles, every one would laugh and clap.....Wait, I would say.....she does another Impression.....Mary, Do Stevey Wonder! After I would sneeze and she would bring me a Kleenex from the box tapped on top of the piano. I just this morning saw that I have a Toy Piano I picked up, for our cats, at a Thrift Store for $1.......KATY SIZED! So???? Not today, not tomorrow, buy soon. I like to stay on one or two tricks til the animal 'gets it' before moving on to another trick. This is Mrs. Dillion in beginning training with her hoop.....in costume. https://marnasmenagerie.com/menageri...6-08-31___.jpg |

Ha Ha....and for Bonding.....Dogs LOVE Having a Job! Pleasing their owners. When I had a Trick Troupe, we had a 13 pound Beagle. We did our Routine for a LOT of Churches and Schools. Trigger, the Beagle, was sooooooo cute. Her BIG trick, the one people loved, was when we bowed our head at the beginning of the show, to Pray.....for the show and that the dogs would remember and do their tricks well.....she would fold her little feet and bow her head....PEOPLE LOVED THAT LITTLE DOG! She also did a whole array of tricks...but Praying, THAT'S the one people got a Kick out of! Ha Ha My Troupe was called, "Gospel Dogs". When we did Tricks at Churches we did them to Scripture.....like Abby our Alaskan Malamute would 'Crawl' down a strip of carpet and pick up, to bring back, big plastic Grapes.....Joshua sneaking into Cannan. My dogs Jumps thru TWO Hoops, because Ezekiel say the Wheel in the Wheel....and on and on.....Piano Playing.....Let EVERY Creature Praise the Lord.....
