Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Stress reducing pheremones I'm wondering if they really worked or if this was a coincidence... When Tallulah first came home, she went to bed quite willingly. She has a mesh folding pen that sits right next to my bed, and as long as I was in the room, she was fine. The last month, bedtime has become increasingly stressful. A couple of weeks ago it got so bad, I started bringing her to bed with me until she was zonked out and then put her in her bed. She would wake up a little but settled down right away. That worked for a week, then she started fussing when moved to her bed. This weekend I couldn't get her to settle down at all and ended up sleeping in my chair with her in my lap. Having her sleep in our bed is not an option. I promised George that I would not do that, but the REAL reason is that our bed is very high off the ground and I won't risk her falling off if she gets restless during the night. Last night I plugged in one of those pheremone diffusers right next to the bed. After a few minutes I noticed her sniffing a little but I couldn't smell anything. I let her sleep a few minutes on my bed then moved her to her pen. She woke up a little, pawed at her bed to make a nest, and went right back to sleep - not even a whimper. So do these things really work or did I just enjoy a huge coincidence? |

No Longer a Member | I believe they work, I bought a couple diffusers for my cat who was having a "marking issue" when he got stressed. Since plugging them in I've had no more issues, he's even stopped scratching my couches and Rizzo konks out pretty quick once play time is over. Of course some people say they don't work on their pets at all, lol. I think it's kind of like using lavander scented candles to calm yourself, for some it works, but for others it doesn't. Congrats on finding such an easy fix to bedtime |

| My vet, mentioned that they may help our elderly boxer who has dementia and is very restless at night. Please keep us posted on the results. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Day two using the pheremone diffuser... Tallulah goes in her pen whenever no one is home to supervise her. In the evening, there is occasionally a gap of up to to an hour between the time my niece brings her home from Yorkie Camp and I get home. When I get home she is usually shrieking like a banshee by the time I get across the house. Then I sit by the bed and we "chat" until she calms down before I get her out of the pen. Yesterday afternoon when I got home, not a peep. In fact, I was a little worried that something was wrong. Ran across the house, and there she was in her pen, smiling and wagging her tail! What a difference! Last night bedtime, I reduced the length of snuggle time from an hour (yes, really) to half an hour. She gave a few half-hearted whines when I put her in her pen, but then settled down and went to sleep. She only woke me up once when it was time to use the potty pad... otherwise we had a quiet night. I'm not going to reduce the cuddle time further because I think it's good for both of us, but it's encouraging to think that when I really need to put her in her pen, it might not be so stressful for her. I think it's too early to declare it a success based on just two nights, but early signs are certainly positive! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | There are lots of scientific studies that indicate stress reducing pheromones actually work. Whether the product you buy works is another thing. Companies learn that pheromones giving off by nursing dogs soothe dogs, and might put that type of pheromone in a product, but it may not be not in sufficient quantities to produce the result. So as anything, "buyer beware", however, at least with this type of product, you can't harm anyone. You shouldn't really be able to smell the pheromone noticeably, if you did, I would think they were using too much of another ingredient. Anyway, glad you are having luck with this product, pheromones are really interesting, and I believe they can produce a wide range of behaviors instinctively.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Day three, and I'm a believer. I hit really bad traffic coming home last night and Tallulah was alone in her pen for over an hour. George and I got home at the same time and I stopped for a minute to talk with him. Tallulah was quiet for a little while, then gave out a few "Hey, I'm Here!" barks. But none of the screaming or whining she usually does. She went into her pen last night after the usual snuggle time and not a peep. When I get up at night (54 years old - need I say more?) she usually fusses to get up with me. Last night I got up and she stirred but didn't fuss at all. Best night of sleep either of us has had since last October! |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | The one I'm using is the Comfort Zone diffuser - bought it at Petco. Here's a link to it on their site: Comfort Zone Diffuser with D.A.P. for Dogs at PETCO . You might be able to find the same one for less elsewhere -- I happened to have a gift card so I didn't comparison shop. |

| What are the long term results? Hello, I just read your post and comments after buying the Comfort Zone diffuser at Petco today. Since day one Duke has wanted nothing to do with his kennel...no matter how plush, den like or crate training methods I use he tolerates it, but doesn't retreat to it. I currently have his kennel set inside of a x-pen with his potty patch. He has seperation anxiety, which we are trying to overcome. Once Duke realizes that I am getting ready to leave he will hide in my closet, shake and slightly piddle when I pick him up. I am hoping this product will ease his anxiety so that we can learn to overcome our seperation fears. What are your thoughts on the effectiveness now that you have been using the product for some time? Thank you for sharing! Jessica and Duke |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I'm definitely a believer. We totally stopped the cycle of stressed out behavior. And now even though the contents of the jar have run out, she is calm when she gets put in her pen. I have made a couple of changes to her routine in the meantime. Tallulah now has the freedom of the kitchen, hall, and bathroom (all tiled) when I have to leave her at home. She is about 75% pad trained (was about 90% there but this colitis problem she has had really set her back a lot), and if she has an accident it's an easy clean up. She has access to all her toys and two beds in the area, and is a lot happier there. She still goes in her mesh pen when her chauffeur (my niece) brings her home from Yorkie Camp and at bedtime - after some snuggle time in my bed until she's asleep. I hope it works for Duke as well as it has for Tallulah. That reminds me that I wanted to get another jar to have on hand for stressful times or when we travel. Please keep us posted. |
