Inactive Account | Pet Insurance?.... Before I get my pups, I would like to have an idea of the pet insurance that would be best for two pups. I have heard of Trupanion, Embrace and Petplan. What are your recommendations and/or experiences? Please respond, your opinions help greatly. |

| I got Trupanion for my yorkie. I basically just got into the mind set that I would pay monthly, with the hopes I will Never have to use it. I choose - 0 - deductible and they reimburse 90% of all illness & injury. I have had to file about 3 claims within a months time.... I have had no problems....and had Great customer service. They approved all claims within a weeks time and I got my checks a few days after. |

I have Trupanion as well. However, I did not want an emergency only plan and made the mistake of choosing a $50 deductible or something like that. What you need to know about Trupanion is that it is a PER CONDITION deductible and not a per visit deductible. So if your pup has multiple problems, the treatments are split up by condition and you have to pay the deductible on each. I did not understand this when I signed up. After my first claim, it was explained to me why it went the way it did and I switched to the $0 deductible. That will solve the only problem I had with it (the claims themselves were easy and the staff was helpful in explaining things to me) and I do love all the coverage they give. Plus, you don't have to pay a different fee for going to the ER like some other insurances and they also cover congenital, hereditary, and chronic issues (as long as they aren't pre-existing) and there is no ceiling like some other insurances. Overall, I really like Trupanion. It is a comparable price to other insurances and gives better coverage in my own opinion after my research. However, just make sure you gather the information and research for yourself and pick the plan that is best for YOU. If I wanted an emergency only plan or didn't have the funds I do, I might have gone with a different company. Good luck! All this insurance stuff can be hard to get your head around.

| I had Trupanion and was happy with the $33 I paid per month. My first year anniversary they increased the amount to $150 per month for the same coverage. I cancelled and went with PetPlan. I could not believe the increase. Cherie

| I think they told me my payment would not go up. I will have to double check this though. |

| This is from their site: " We’ve previously touched on the fact that with Trupanion, your premiums won’t increase when you submit a claim, but many pet owners ask us when else their dog insurance premiums may increase. I’d be lying if I told you that premiums with Trupanion will never increase. However, they will not increase based on the age of your pet. Some pet insurance companies have rate factors in accordance with the pet’s age. So, each year when you renew your policy, you will likely see premium increases. With Trupanion, premiums may periodically change to reflect the cost of veterinary care in your region, but rates will never be increased due to the aging of your pet or for filing claims. As you might imagine, during the 10-15 years that your pet is alive, veterinary medicine grows quite rapidly. While this is great news to help extend the lives of our pets, it naturally means an increase in cost. To ensure that Trupanion can keep paying out on the latest veterinary technology, we must periodically adjust our policyholder premiums. This may happen every 1 and a half to 2 years during the life of your pet." So looks like they fed me the line that the premiums wouldn't increase because of my pet aging. However, it seems they just randomly increase premiums for no reason to cover the fact that they do not do this. I'm not 100% positive on this, but I will keep the coverage until they try to mess with it. If they try to raise my premiums to something insane, I will just cancel and put money away for emergencies. It could possibly be a fishy marketing attempt (the no premium increase) that was one of the reasons I chose them was the steady rate. If the rate turns out to not be so steady however... I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, but until then I really like this company. You get a lot of coverage for a reasonable price (as long as the price stays reasonable). In NYS you have to pay a year upfront, so I know that they can't just randomly raise my premium for at least a year. |

| When will my pet insurance premiums increase? | Trupanion Pet Insurance Here is the link... after reading more, I'm getting a bit worried... Does PetPlan charge you more if you enroll your dog after they are 1 year old? Gotta start to plan for the worst. Blargh. |

| After more research, it seems the huge hike was only CA customers due to some insurance board not allowing Trupanion to raise their rates since 2008 or something... going to keep reading. Edit: Nevermind... found one in MA too. ::sigh:: Now I have to get back to researching ASAP. Rylie turns 1 year in less than a month Gonna have to find out what a plan will cost me once she turns because her policy runs out well after her birthday. Hopefully, they just won't screw me over, ha ha. :P Last edited by Furbaby Friend; 07-23-2011 at 11:54 AM. |

I was paying $32.68 and as of Today, I am paying $43.77. I have only had it for 1-year....I got it the day I brought Riley home...[which was 1-year ago, today]!! I like the - 0 - deductible and the no payout limits. My original plan was to get it for at least Riley's first few years and then I would re-evaluate after that. If it continues to go up like that though, I just don't know.....

| I looked at Petplan, Embrace, Trupanion, and VPI before deciding. Pet's Best was ruled out because of some of their policies. I didn't like the benefits schedule with VPI. Some things about Trupanion bothered me (including needing to pay the office/call exam every time plus 10%, etc.). Just wasn't for us and I'm glad I skipped it. I think Petplan and Embrace are both great depending on what you are looking for. I chose Petplan with a $0 copay, $50 deductible, bronze plan. It does go up as pets age, but that was stated up front and is understandable.

| Yes, it's per incident, per year (Embrace is just a yearly deductible. But because I'm not paying for the exam or a % of what is done, that was fine by me.
