| If you are having a major problem with fleas you need to get everything treated all at once- this is what I would do- bathe your dog with dawn dish soap (the regular kind), get a capstar from the vet, remove the dog (and any and all other pets) from the home and give them the capstar, while the dog is out of the house have the entire inside and outside treated by a professional exterminator, bring the dog home and bathe them with the dawn again- then get your dog on a monthly flea preventative.

| I'm so sorry you are having a hard time with fleas. I hope you find a way to resolve this. The above suggestion sounds good.

| Launder everything! dog beds, your bed etc. Get the carpet (and rugs!) steam cleaned Couch and furniture too-yp even your mattress, I'd do all draperies aswell Tell them you are having flea issues Dawn only kills the live fleas on them We had this issue when we took in a stray we found-a week later the damn fleas were hatching for two weeks and Princess has flea allergies-despite our Frontline Plus and ACV in their water-we had continual baby fleas hatching out the carpet-so I had the house done-well then I realized lil buggers were hatching out the yard in winter! Dog went out flea free came in with baby nasties on them! So we had the pest control guy come early and retreat the entire yard not just the perimeter. Anyways I used Apple Cider Vinegar as a leave on rub on Princess she was not loving it or the smell me either but it detoured the fleas-she actually got a hot spot on her neck and that was the last straw for me-daily baths every morning with Dawn...poor girl but we rid ourselves in three days after the streaming and doing it all at once!

No Longer a Member | Good luck! I've had a terrible time with them, they plague my cat The best remedy is to treat everything at once. I found a suggestion online saying to put salt down on your couch, carpet, etc leave it on overnight and then vacuum thoroughly the next morning. I haven't tried it out yet, but I would def. leave it to the professionals if it's an option. Don't forget about the doggy car seat when you're treating areas (if your pup rides with you often) Good luck! I hate these little buggers! |

This is exactly what I would do!! We had a flea issue a few years ago and it takes some work to get rid of the problem completly, unfortunatly. I bought a Roomba (robot vaccuum) to do daily vaccuuming for me It was so easy and to pick up eggs and larvae that havn't hatched daily vaccuuming is a must!!

| I am allergic to flea bites so if I ever have a problem I need to call someone like Orikin. A few bites and They get to the size of a silver dollar. Too many and I go into shock and need my Epi Pen. I have never had fleas or ticks while the boys are on K9 Advanrix. Before I got Mickey I had Max on Frontline and I was pulling ticks off every week. Make sure you get a good Flea/Tick med.

| Sometime the problem really is the lil nasties (fleas) just keep hatching and you have ot thoroughly repeat the whole flea treating process over and over for up to two week! Quote:

| As others have said, yes, a topical flea preventative from your vet. I will only use Frontline Plus on my dogs because it's really safe and my cat plays with the dogs(if anyone has cat(s) also who play with their dog(s) DON'T use K9 Advantix on your dogs, it is extremely dangerous to cats if they lick a dog that is treated with it). I only really know alot about Frontline - it will kill every life stage of the flea (I think there's 3) from egg to adult. If you have a flea problem in your home, using the frontline on each pet in the house every 28 - 30 days will completely break the life cycle in 3 to 4 months (all the fleas with eventually end up on one of your pets and die). A good trick to get the little buggers out of your carpet is buy a flea collar (those ugly white ones), cut it into a few pieces and put it inside your vaccuum bag or canister to kill the ones you suck up). Dawn dishwashing liquid will kill the adult fleas that are on your dog, so a bath with that before applying the topical (wait till dog is dry first) will help speed the process. PLEASE DON'T anyone ever ever ever use any of the cheap topical treatments like Hart's or whatever. In the vet clinic I worked for we saw terrible chemical burns among other problems from these products and they don't work anyway because there's only trace amounts of any active ingredient. you only really need to resort to the expence of an exterminator if the problem's really bad otherwise consistant use of a topical product from the vet will take care of the problem within a few weeks. |
