If you are having a major problem with fleas you need to get everything treated all at once- this is what I would do- bathe your dog with dawn dish soap (the regular kind), get a capstar from the vet, remove the dog (and any and all other pets) from the home and give them the capstar, while the dog is out of the house have the entire inside and outside treated by a professional exterminator, bring the dog home and bathe them with the dawn again- then get your dog on a monthly flea preventative.
