| Double Teeth? Mia lost her tiny front teeth and they have almost all now come back in. Last night I heard her GRINDING her teeth for the first time. This morning I checked and her incisors (the long pointy ones - 2 top & 2 bottom) are still there and there are new ones coming in inside the others. Should I take her to the vet for pulling now, or wait til they come in some more. The have just poked through. One day nothing , next here they are. She plays tug all the time, but I can't really feel if they are loose or not. thanks |

| Schatzie's teeth did the same exact thing your Mia is doing. I took Schatzie to the vet so her teeth could be examined. My vet said to give it a few weeks to see if the baby teeth would fall out on their own, and if they didn't then they would be pulled. He said her bite was really nice and not to worry at that point. Well, those stubborn incisors never came out naturally so she had them pulled during a recent surgery.

| Gypsy Rose's baby teeth (well 5 of them) never came out either until she was spayed at a year old and had them out under anaesthetic! Gizzie Chavi our 7 month old awaits the same fate exactly..!! Apparently these baby teeth have very deep roots. I'd heard that a second dog plays tug of war a lot more than a first and only dog (makes sense lol!) but even though it's one of Gizzie's favourite games, it didn't work..!! Ana xx |

| double teeth As a foster mom, I have the occasion of bringing yorkies to the vet on a pretty regular basis. Our group always has them vetted immediately upon accepting them into the fold. My vet is very thorough, and when she does the spay or neuter she automatically does the dental if they need it, such as removing the puppy teeth or any rotten teeth which is usually the case in the rescue furkids. One more thing that she does for me is microchip them while under anesthesia so that they won't have to endure the big needle later on during a regular vetting experience. This must be a pretty common thing for them to retain their baby teeth to some extent, since most of mine wind up having to have some removed. I have no idea whether or not the extra teeth hurt them, since they are done within the first couple of days in foster, and usually it's the next day. But I would think that it would cause them some discomfort just based on the way my teeth used to feel before I had them all out!!! LOL She has never talked to me about just leaving them alone and maybe they will fall out so I don't know if that will happen or not, but I think she just goes ahead and takes care of it all at once to make their transition into foster from usually a bad situation one that has more potential to work for the dogs.

| Just recently had both my boys neutered. Had the vet check their teeth during a visit around 6 months of age, cause I was concerned that no matter how much I brushed Bengie's teeth they stayed an ugly brown. Wouldn't you know it, Bengie had no problems with his baby teeth or his bite, in fact, the vet said that it was really unusual for a yorkie to have such great teeth, I said ok, then why are they so decayed looking and brown? It seems that my fave (being really facetious here) backyard breeder had given Bengie a very strong antibiotic prior to his adult teeth being fully formed. While his teeth are in otherwise perfect condition, the color and enamel is permanently discolored. When I had Garrett neutered last month (along with Bengie) the vet only had to remove one tooth and Garrett has the prettiest little teeth and smile (don't laugh, he does), that you have ever seen. I understand that baby teethe are a problem with yorkies, but with all the problems I have had buying from a con artist backyard breeder, at least they have good teeth. By the way, anyone looking for a yorkie in the greater LA area, do NOT BUY FROM EDDY KISS. he sells sick dogs, I got two (not counting the two I have now) on two different occasions, long story, but do not buy from him. |

| Max has the same problem, but I read some of the stuff here b/f and decided to wait till they come out naturally. At first (when he was growing double teeth) the baby teeth were not loose at all. I let him keep playing tug of war and gave him chew toys often. After a week or so, they became loose. Right now his lower ones are both very loose (will come out any day now). But the upper ones are not at all loose, but we'll wait and see.
