| I split the dose between my two Yorkies (3.5 lbs. and 6 lbs.). According to the dose, it was still 50% more than what they needed , but it was better than 4X! I used a small syringe (a needle without the needle) so that I could accurately measure the amount given to each of the dogs. The syringe also made it easy to apply. I'm switching my dogs over to Comfortis today. It's a newly FDA approved flea preventative, but what I really like about it is that the smallest dose is for 5-10 lb. dogs. Therefore, they won't be overdosed as badly as they are with other meds. Good luck! |

| I split a dose between two 11lbers. They are both 3yrs old now and I have never had a problem. As long as there is no problem I will continue to share the dose as I want to keep them as safe from excess toxins as I can.

| I use the dosage for cats. It is the same product but smaller dosage. Mine are 3 1/2 lbs and 2 1/2 lbs.

| My vet insists that the dose be split on small dogs. I split one tube between them and have been doing it that way for years with no flea or tick problems. I get 4 doses from one tube.

| Tatum is 5.5 lbs and I've never split a dose of Frontline. But a few months ago, I switched both dogs (other one is an Aust. Shep.) to Comfortis. Upon the vet's recommendation, I now give them each their Advantage pill (or is it Advantix? can't remember and don't have it in front of me - but it's the heartworm/flea pill) on the 1st of the month and then the Comfortis pill on the 15th. We have a serious flea problem in our area which is why he recommended it that way. So far we've seen much improvement! I highly recommend the Comfortis - even if that's the only one you use all month. You don't need to double up like we do if you don't have as serious of a flea problem.

| A lot of times they will tell you not to split the pills or chewy things ... they say you can't be sure if you're getting the proper amount of medicine. I pretty much think that's a crock; if the medicine wasn't thoroughly mixed up, you would stand the risk of having "hot" pills and pills with absolutely nothing in them. The meds are well mixed: they just don't want you to conserve the cost by splitting the pills. It cuts into the bottom line. When I get the Comfortis (which has a dose for 5-10 lb. dogs), the dogs will each get a full tab. But next month I may split one and give each dog a half pill and see how it works. Bella is 3.5 lbs.; Puddy is 6 lbs. So, Bella would get a shade more than what she needs and Puddy would get a shade less, but it will be interesting to see how it works. If it doesn't work out, then they'll go back to a tab each. And yes: when I split the Frontline, 1/4 went to Bella, 1/4 went to Puddy, and the remaining 1/2 went to the Westie pup (who's larger). Meds are too expensive to waste, and when it comes to ingesting pesticides, I'd just as soon ensure that they have the proper dose rather than a "range" which will more than likely give them too much. Personally, I'd rather not give them ANY treatment, but the fleas are just too bad around here. |

| Just for grins and giggles: my husband just called. He picked up a 6 months supply of Comfortis - pink package for 5-10 lb. dogs - and it cost $91.00!!!! I saw it on line for $61.00 and thought THAT was bad! How much are ya'll paying for this med??? |

| Not sure yet. We've only gotten a couple months supply for each dog so that we could try it out and since it's just put on our "tab" at the vet, I really can't remember. I know next month I need to get a 6 month supply but I got a $10 coupon in the mail to use (yipee!!). But you say you saw it for $61 online? Where was that? I will ask my vet what they charge and this time use my coupon with him but maybe next time get it online if it's cheaper. But yes, flea meds aren't cheap! Well, maybe the non-effective ones are but then you waste your money. I certainly can't take the chance with noneffective meds with the horrible flea problem we have in our area.

Basically, when I found this site I was still researching it (Comfortis). I don't know if it's available less expensively elsewhere or not. Who sent you the coupon? Maybe I can write to them to ask for one. Alternatively, perhaps I should look into getting the next size up and splitting the pills ... It's only $1 more for twice the med, and the size after that is only $5 more for 4X the med. Mannnnn! I understood getting ripped off for meds when I had a Great Dane, but I didn't think I'd get ripped just as badly on the *other* end of the scale, either ! | |

| I have a 16lber and this season I have deceided to cut down on the amount applied to him. I use 3/4 of the vial and throw the rest away. I also use it every 6wks instead of once a month. I stop between Nov-March. I have seen nothing on him this season. Next year I just may add a week to the time I apply it. 7wks instead of 6. If it works why not? |

| You're lucky: you live in New York (if you can call that "lucky" ). At least you have a break in the flea season. Down here, it's 24/7/365: it never gets cold enough to kill off the existing population. Here where I live, it's been dry, so we haven't even been able to drown them out. The flea population is alive and well -- *thriving*, even. "Monthly" meds are frequently overdosed to ensure adequate coverage during overlap periods. Stretch it out as long as you can: it saves you money and your pup the extra pesticide in its system. You can't fault it if it works. |
