| My little Dixie is eating Presley's poop! Help Hi, Just wondering if anyone has any tips that WORK on preventing poop eating. Dixie just started eating poop last week and we've tried pineapple and changed treats, but it's not working. We went to PetSmart to get Deter but the lady there said that doesn't really work that well. My dogs are all on California Natural Food...and from all research I've done, that is a very respectable food so I don't think it's because of "cheap "corn filled" food", which I have also been told causes poop eating. At first she was just eating Presley's poop...not her own, or Tawny's. BUT....today I caught her eating her own..YUCK YUCK YUCK. What can I do? I am afraid to put "hot sauce" etc (which has also been suggested to me)...to make it taste bad because she is so tiny (2.9 lbs). I don't want her to ingest stuff like that. BUT I don't want her to eat POOP either!!!! We try to pick it up as soon as anyone poops...but we are not home all the time and we can't be on constant poop watch. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Sometime, they smell undigested food in their feces and want to eat it. They usually out grow this, but some people have suggested putting unseasoned meat tenderizer on their food. The ingredient makes their poop unappetizing. Make sure you use unseasoned, the seasoned kind has salt in it.

| My vet had told me to put some cayenne pepper on it and it will deter them. One of my yorkies stopped eating poop after I did this but the other one likes hot spicy food and she thought she was at the Mexican buffet!! Hopefully it could work for you! |

| LMAO!!! Mogli loved food ... but if you put a little hot sauce on your finger, he'd get within a foot or so and start showing is teeth ... he hated it!!! After he smelled it, he'd stay about 4 feet away! I don't recall him eating his sh!t when he was a puppy ... I would try the hot sauce ... it's really just peppers and sodium ... try a dab on your finger and see if Dixie likes it (if so, don't use it as the fix!) |

| Going on 3 years - God I hate this nasty habit. I have tried EVERYTHING - nothing worked over here. I am recycling stuff to see if maybe we can finally stop this nasty habit. Currently I am tring anise seed powder again in their food. Is has only been 3 dys so I can't say it works or not just yet. Best of luck! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thank you so much for telling me that. I have one who has allergies so I guess I can't use that. I have like 10 day suppy for 4 dogs!!! The breeder told me to put hot sauce on the poop and bait them, she said they may foam at the mouth but it won't hurt them, HAs anyone tried that? Were the dogs OK

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The enzyme most commonly used in meat tenderizer is papain, which comes from papayas. Meat is sprinkled with the powder and the enzymes help to break down the meat fibers. This is the same thing that happens when sprinkled on dog food, and the dog will not smell undigested protein in his poop, therefore it won't appeal to him. Also, it is safe, if you use the unseasoned kind.

| Can I ask a question without anyone taking offence? If you are around to put various things on the poop, why don't you just remove it, as soon as it's been done? If your working, how can you put anything on it? |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Oh, I guess your right; some are suggesting putting pepper on the poop. This would be an aversion technique. Dog eats poop, dog burns mouth, dog learns not to eat poop. I wouldn't have too much confidence in this method because a dog could learn to differentiate between peppered poop and unpeppered poop pretty easily, they have wonderful olfactory senses, and furthermore some dogs might even like the hot sauce.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Hello, I know how you are feeling...We were at the vets 4 days ago, and I asked the vet what to do about eating poop. Although my Yorkie doesn't eat poop, my German Shepherd does. She makes me want to throw up when I see her and especially smell her breath. The Worst... I asked the vet why???why???does she do that? He said that they might be lacking something in their diet or they just love to eat poop. He said he could give us something for her food to make the poop taste awful. I told him forget it, I tried that already. Also to give them a daily vitamin. So that is my poop story. Good Luck....I feel for you. Pooch Lady & Pebbles www.rocknpooches.com
