The enzyme most commonly used in meat tenderizer is papain, which comes from papayas. Meat is sprinkled with the powder and the enzymes help to break down the meat fibers. This is the same thing that happens when sprinkled on dog food, and the dog will not smell undigested protein in his poop, therefore it won't appeal to him. Also, it is safe, if you use the unseasoned kind.
