| Jasmine needs surgery Hello to all my new Yorkie Lover Friends!!! My name is Michelle, my friends call me Chel... I have had yorkies all my life, I grew up with them at home and have had the blessing of having 4 Yorkie Furbabies of my own. My last yorkie, Tara, lived to be 181/2 and I had to make the wrenching decision to let her go.... It took me a while, but then I was ready to find a new "monster"... after a year, I found my new furbaby... Jasmine, we call her Jazzy, she is absolutely wonderful and just a total delight. She is 10 months old, and weighs 3lbs 1oz.... She recently suffered a fall off my bed, (which I am sick about as I am so cautious of this...) She didnt cry, but immediately was favoring her left hind leg. We rushed her to the vet, X-Rays showed no break, but she has LP... We tried some anti inflammatory medication and did a follow up one week later. At that time, she still did not want to use her leg. I then took her to a orthopedic specialist, and he confirmed what I was fearing... She has a level/Grade 3 LP that needs surgery... I am soo sad, and SO anxious about this surgery. Jazzy also has her 4 baby canine deciduous teeth that are going to be extracted at the same time. I was planning to have this done at any time now as we were really hoping that we could "encourage" them to come out on their own with playing, chewing, etc... You know, avoid that anesthesia if at ALL possible... Now that this has happened to her leg, I know the best thing is to have her teeth done at the same time, but it just seems to be so much for these little ones... I was blessed that with all my other Yorkies, I never ran into LP problems, this is a first for me... I am just a nervous Furbaby mom... Jaz's surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, May 30th, She will be having the surgery done by an Orthopedic surgeon that specializes in small animals. She will be in the hospital overnight with 24 hour care, so I know that she will be in good hands, (just not mine... ) I will be counting the hours to pick her up... I am hoping that by the time I get her on Wednesday that she will have fully recovered from the anesthesia... That part always makes me nervous. My new friends, please keep Jazzy & I in your thoughts and prayers.... If anyone has any experience with this, please help a furbaby mommie, feel better... Chel |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome ans so sorry about Jazzy. Cali is my 4th Yorkie and she does not have Lp but was in the Er clinic for surgery for a possible blockage while she was in heat. So they did surgery and spayed her and did liver biopsies and intestinal biopsies as well. I was a wreck. They called me as soon as surgery was over and i called every 4 hours to checkon her and they wgere so nice to me, She had to stay 36 hours after surgery because she couldn't keep food down at first. She was fine when I got her home just very tired for 2-3 days. I'm glad you are having a specialist to the surgery, I had a board certified surgeon so if they found a liver shunt they could fix it. Unfortunately they couldn't remove all her baby teeth she has retained (nearly all of them) because she was having a hard time keeping he body temp up so they wanted to get her up. But Jazzy shoud do just fine. I will keep her in my prayers

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I have no experience with LP surgery, but I recently took a 10-year, 4-pound Yorkie in to repair his cranial cruciate. It was a complicated surgery, but Jack came through like a champ. He had 3 legs going in and four coming out. It's been six months or so, and you wouldn't know he ever had surgery. You're doing a great thing getting it repaired. I'm sure it's going to work out just fine. Be sure to take lots of pictures and post them here. That's sort of the admission price from joining YT.

| My thoughts & prayers are with you and Jasmine. I know the worry you're going through. My furbaby, Snickers, is not only my first pet in over 5 years, but my first yorkie ever. He is 4 months old & broke his leg a week ago & had to have surgery. I was a nervous reck & called everyone I knew asking that they say a prayer. Snickers (3 lbs) did well & I'm sure your little baby will too. It's amazing how much love these little yorkies can bring out of us...... Keep us updated. |

| Hello JMetts... Thank you so much for the kind words!!.. I am a nervous wreck as I dropped her off this morning. I gave her a nice bath this morning so she would be clean and feel good... I know that she is in good hands and with God, love and prayers she will do well.... How is your little Snickers? I just luv the name, too cute!! As you are finding out, they are so much fun!! I too have had other animals and still do... I love them all, but Yorkies are just so different. I think they truely are like babies as they are dependent on us for everything... I hope your Snickers is getting around and healing beautifully. I will post an update once I know she is done with surgery and out of the anesthesia... Have a great day, and Thank you again, friend... Chel.. BTW, welcome to YT, I see you are a newbie, just like me.. |

| Chel, Any news yet? Thanks for asking how Snickers is doing.... I think he has forgotten that he was hurt & only wants to play! I'll tell you my experience, since you will probably be in the same boat with Jasmine. Confinement has been the hardest part, of course after crying like a nut dropping him off at surgery & the rest of the day until I got the word that he made it through the anestesia Snickers has to be in a cage at all times unless he is eating, using the potty, or being held. No jumping, running, or playing is hard to explain to a 4 month old furbaby! Oh, the guilt......but of course it is the best thing to allow for proper recovery. One thing I recommend....although it feels silly, is the front back-pack. You can put Jasmine in & attach the leash to her coller & she can hang out with you while you wander around doing your daily duties. Snickers really likes it. Plus you can kind of tuck the E Collar in (ask for a cloth one) & get it out of the babys face for awhile while not allowing access to chew on the stitches. Of course, I guess this all depends on how your baby is bandaged, you may want to confirm with your vet that this is ok (I did). Any news yet? Jamie |

| Hi All, Jazz's surgery went well. I spoke with the Doctor this afternoon, he said she did well during the surgery. He stated that her leg was pretty bad, but that he felt good about how he was able to do her repair. They were not able to pull her baby teeth that are left as they are in to tight and they did not want to continue to keep her under the anesthetic as long as it would have taken to pulled them... I am dissappointed only as this means another "procedure", but I am very appreciative that they were cautious rather than risky with this approach. The doctor said that he was concerned due to her small size.... I checked on her this evening and she was still groggy, but she was resting in her kennel. I hope she gets a good nights rest... We miss her terrible tonight. I will get to really ask some questions tomorow about the procedure and all...I will let you know.... Thank you all for your kind words and prayers, they were much needed today. I am so thankful this is over, and now we can focus on recovery. Have a good evening!! Give all your little furbabies hugs & kisses for me |
