| First post.....Trinity is VERY sick....advice.. Never thought my first post on any forum I frequent would be so sad. My 3 1/2 yo Yorkie, Trinity who normally weighs 3 lbs 6 oz is down to 2 lbs 14 oz. in a matter of four days. She has been vomiting and has bloody stool leading up to me taking her in to the hospital. She was admitted 2 days ago for blood work and emergency IV's for dehydration and lack of eating. The blood work came back today. Diagnosis was pancreatitis....which the vet says is due to her possibly ingesting something she shouldn't have. I am perplexed with what it could have been because she is NEVER out of my sight when she goes outside. ....and inside the house, when I'm not home, she's in the kitchen with nothing but her food and water on a tile floor that is ALWAYS kept debris-free. Her condition tonight before is very un-interested in her surroundings...but on the bright side, her eyes IMO look a little brighter. The vet said the only up side of today was that she actually made an effort to lick his finger that he had used to put a little food in her mouth. Sorry about the long explanation, but any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks for reading....she is my EVERYTHING. It's is especially hard on me right now because my girlfriend and I just called it quits four weeks ago....so this as you might guess, makes this time in my life really difficult. Here's a pic of my baby........ http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/6...nity004uf5.jpg |

| I am so sorry to hear about poor Trinity. She is an absolute doll. I'm sorry I don't really have much to add about pancreatitis, although it's definately positive you caught things early and actually took her to the vet, a proactive approach is so much better than "wait and see." There is so much experience on this board I am sure someone will chime in shortly with advice for you. In the meantime, you and Trinity are in our thoughts and prayers. Welcome to YorkieTalk, so sorry this has to be your first post! Please keep us updated.

| what helped when i had a sick pup was going in with her and feeding her myself... soft food (boiled chicken, hamburger, soft carrots, baby food, ect.) so she knows that you're still there. good luck.

| Yorkies are prone to pancreatitis, unfortunately. A little bit of anything fatty could have triggered her attack. Sometimes attacks are not triggered by food at all, but an infection or even a metabolic disorder. This explains pancreatitis: Pancreatitis (Inflammation) in Dogs |

| Thanks for the kind words everyone. Btw, the vet called this morning and said that Trinity is moving around her kennel a little. She didn't have an episode of vomiting all last night , but did this morning. Hopeful...just not out of the woods yet. He recommended another blood test to see if there is any change in her blood count from the first test a couple of days ago. I miss "Lil Momma" ....as all my friends have called her. Quote:

| this worked for me my muffin was also diagnosted from blood work on monday with this pancreatic problem ,she was starting to dehydrate and was shaking ,the vet gave her a shot of pain medication and advised me to try adding (tuna in WATER the can stuff) adding just the water from the tuna to her normal drinking water and she also told me to give her GASTRO formula made by medi-cal as her only food for 2-3 days .The only way i could get her to take the water was from a syringe I got at the pharmacy and to only give her 1-2 tablespoons of this special food (soft one)6 times a day and no other food of any kind .Monday she was in bad shape but by yesterday a big difference, today she is almost back to herself .I spent Monday night up with her and kept offering her this special water every hour to hour and a half ,she was taking it slowly at first but as long as she was drinking I was happy.By tuesday morning when i called the vet with the info she had has 26 tsp.of water and 1/3 can of food .The vet was satisfied with that ,but I continue to monitor her closely but thank god all looks good now .Hope this is helpful to you .good luck with your pooch .Be sure if you try the tuna it must be the one in water NOT OIL : |

| Just got back from the hospital. Trinity is still on the IV bag with saline and dextrose. Today she actually showed a little interest in food. She has not vomited today....first time in five days. Her diarrhea is a little better......finally no blood in he stool. The doc says he feels pretty good that she might be ready to go home tomorrow or Saturday...*fingers crossed*. Thanks for reading. It's tough being without her, but as I was told today....very necessary. On a side note: All the girls at the clinic have fallen in love with her, so I saw today first hand that she is being pampered in this difficult time. That in itself makes me feel better. |

| Oh, I hope she gets to come home. I can only imagine that daddy time would speed that healing along quickly. Did your vet determine exactly what happened? On a side note (totally inappropriate comment- don't hate me ) maybe you can get a date out of it I understand yorkies are total chick magnets!

| I almost lost my dexter to pancreatitis and he had it so severe that he had a plasma transfusion and it saved his life so i went through this and it is not fun. Fast forward two years later he is doing great. Feel free to email me anytime dwert35@aol.com as I know alot about this. Pancreatitis can be triggered from inflammatory bowel disease as well - dex only vomitted and never had diarhea. Did they determine the pancreatitis from cpli and tli test as amylase and lipase are not accurate and most accurate test and cost effective is cpli and tli. You do not want her getting pancreatitis over and over as it can lead to diabetes as the pancreas controls the insulin in the body. Once they have had it once it is so easy to get again so NO TREATS period and you need to have her on a low fat diet. What are you feeding her? also i would recommend no white potato as white potatos are inflammatory and if her intestines inflame it can trigger the pancreas. It took us a year of off and on hospitalization but dex was back to recovery as we found the culprit potato. Pancreatitis is usually from high fats but can be from stress or trauma so i know you are going through a break up and the stress of that could affect her so very important to try to keep that more calm even though i know it is really hard right now. I am so sorry you are going through this and she will be ok but go see her often so she knows you are there for her |
