| Logan has Coccidia After seeing Logan have another bloody stool and residual blood running down his rear-end, I took him to the emergency clinic. Ironically, the vet tech I really like at the place where he's being tested for liver shunt also works at the emergency clinic. The vet said he has coccidia, so Logan started on yet another medication. The problem is that all medications used to treat this are metabolized by the liver, which can be a problem if Logan does indeed have a liver shunt. So I'm watching for signs of reaction. My poor baby is not feeling well. He's doing a lot of sleeping, which is probably what he needs right now...and plenty of water. He was slightly dehydrated, but he drank a lot of water when we got home. Last edited by puppy_Love08; 05-26-2008 at 11:16 AM. |

YT 2000 Club Member | I hope Logan gets better soon. Jeter had Coccidia when he was 10 weeks old and it took about 4 weeks on meds to clear out. I couldn't imagine having to worry about a liver problem on top of it all too! When do you find out the results to the Liver testing? Sending our best wishes to little Logan, we'll say a prayer for you!

| If the test comes back abnormal and the vet suspects that he has an operable liver shunt, then: If you are considering giving him to someone for free, please let me help you find a rescue that will take him. They will put the dog in a very loving foster home and pay for all the medical expenses. Once the dog is adoptable, they will find the perfect home for him. They do extensive applications and home visits and are very strict about where the dog goes... If the vet thinks he may have MVD, then the only treatment is medical and dietary management because surgery won't help a dog with MVD. At that point, you would have to just keep him on a strict protocol, and it's possible for him to live a normal life with proper care.
