| Flying Yorkies to Hawaii My girls can join me in Hawaii on December 18th, direct release. I need to have them sent over. I would appreciate any suggestions on which airlines, and really any other suggestions. I'm really stressing because they are coming from Virginia Beach. |

| I'm interested in the procedure for sending to Hawaii because I've had several inquiries about my pups from there. I didn't consider it because I didn't want my babies in quarantine. But I admit I never looked into it in detail. Would love to hear info if anyone has had experience taking a puppy to Hawaii.

It's possible to send puppies to Hawaii with a direct release. I brought Ginger to Hawaii just before she turned 1 years old. However from start to finish it could take up to 10 months. I already had a head start because Ginger already had her first rabies vaccine so for me it took about 7 months to do all the paperwork, vet check, two sets of rabies shots and a rabies blood test.

| That's what I thought. Thanks for the information. The same requirements as England. I figured a puppy would be at least 10 months old before traveling to either locations. I don't think I could let a puppy go after living with the little darling that many months. I suppose if it was planned from the beginning with that goal in mind it would be like being a surrogate mother. Not easy on the heart strings.

| Yes, I would agree. I considered purchasing my second pup from the mainland and having my sister take care of him there while I went through the requirement process but thought it would take alot of difficult planning from afar. I found the requirement list online. Hopefully this will help you out. http://hawaii.gov/hdoa/ai/aqs/aqs-checklist-5.pdf

| waiting the 10 months I am just starting the process of selecting a puppy from a breeder I know in Portland because I could Not fnd one here in HI. And 10 months is the shortest, even then your kind of pushing the shot a little early. Now that I've found this site I see there are many YT owners on the islands. Does anyone here know a reputable breeder here in HI? I brought Rocky over though this breeder, He was mine and 2 years old, she boarded him and did the paperwork etc for a quick release 4 months after I was transferred.

| Romo flew over on United...and it was about a 4-5 month process. But he's also 2.5, so it was just a matter of the blood test and the health certificate, but I was able to get direct release.

| Hawaii has strict regulations and no animal can travel to the State of Hawaii in the cabin.

| I brought my 2 year old Yorkie (he's 3 now) last year from Portland Oregon to HNL Airport. It was SO MUCH WORK, but worth it. Your yorkie cannot fly in the cabin, even if you have someone travel with him/her. I used Hawaiian Airlines and they said you can have someone else check the dog, have the dog fly alone, and have the dog released to someone else. The paperwork is done through the Department of Agriculture, there's a section for the name of the person sending the dog from the original location and the name of someone picking the dog up. Since I flew with my dog, my name was on both sections. Let me know if you have more questions, its' a lot of work, but like I said, it's so worth it. I wouldn't have been able to bear putting my dog in quarantine! |

| I am not to up on Hawaii but am right now in the process of flying mine over from Va to the UK. Honestly it has been a nightmare! I think they are similar in their rules. Mine had everything they needed and rode out their 6 months there and are ready now to come over with no quarantine. The cost is coming in at right around $1200 so definitely not cheap. That includes things like air fare, customs fees and USDA stamp fees but not vet stuff prior, kennel and what not. I have found my best friend in the process has been the actual receiving desk that will process them through on the arrival end. If you have questions they are the ones to call for sure. Mine even offered to have me email them all the paperwork ahead of time just to check it over and make sure it's all right and nothing is missing. If things are not right when the dog gets there they can be deported or sent to quarantine so I wanted to make certain it was 100% right. Good luck!

| Airlines involved As far as airlines involved in flight from Va. to Hi.......you might check Delta as I know they go the entire way. We flew a Doberman female 7 month old puppy on Delta from Florida and at the time United was not shipping lives. The cost 6 yrs ago was over $700 with vet and airfare together to get her to Northwestern USA. I have shipped by air dogs over the years...... and my experience is try not to change airlines.... as the cost goes through the roof as they all have to have their pound of flesh so to speak, each airline will charge full price and I have experienced this as well. I lived in Hawaii in past and my parents lived there 26 years on Maui and their quarantine is terrible on dogs, avoid that at all possible cost. |

| I also used Hawaiian Airlines when I brought my yorkie from Oregon to Hawaii. With winter coming be sure to check with the airlines about seasonal embargos on animal cargo. Some areas of the mainland US won't allow animals to travel as cargo during the winter months as it's too cold. Since I was traveling in the summer from Oregon to Hawaii it wasn't a problem. My advice is to read and reread the checklist. |
