| Psycho Yorkie at the Mall!!! I took Jazzie to a Dog Friendly mall yesterday. This mall is terrific! Dogs of all sizes are welcome in any store except where there is food served. So we are meeting other dogs and shopping and I as we were walking into a store, this lady with a Yorkie is coming out. I'm like "Jazzie! There's a Yorkie friend!" and let Jazzie walk toward her. All of a sudden the little guy/girl? turned into Hannibal Lector and went absolutely ballistic. Snapping, barking, and was just so vicious! To top it off the lady didn't say anything. Instead she GLARED at me as if I did something wrong, yanked on the leash and walked away. I KNOW if any of you had a dog with socializing problem you would not take them out to where there are a lot of people, dogs and especially children. Or at least keep them in a carrier or stroller so you have more control. I wonder where some people lose their commons sense... I hope that dog never bites anyone.

| We have the same problem with Mitzi. She is very friendly with people, or at least polite but watch out when another dog comes along! The funny thing is that when I pick her up to prevent her to bite the other dogs nose (sorry, but she is that mean!) the other dog owner always says: " Don't worry, my dog is friendly!" And I have to answer: "I'm sure of that but this little Yorkshire Terror isn't." And everybody laughs. But you are right, we know how she is and we won't let her get near another dog. Some people are just strange and unconsiderate. |

I understand there are various temperment in animals and I would not risk Jazzie getting hurt. I especially do not let Jazzie go up to children unless invited by the parents. I do apologize if I offended anyone with my thread. I guess I'm too trusting and just assume most people are more responsible and if they own an animal that has the temperment to be unpredictable, they wouldn't take their pet to a crowded place. Actually now that I think about that poor Yorkie must have been so scared and stressed with all those scary people and dogs around.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I can understand thinking a yorkie would want to check out another yorkie & you didn't expect that to happen. IF the owner knew her dog was like that.... she should have been more on top of it. To give you the dirty look wasn't very nice though. You were just being nice. |

| I just have to jump in here and say that I am shocked that a mall allows dogs in while shopping. Not to mention all of the adults and kids that are allergic to dogs. While I love my baby to pieces I don't like taking him while I shop. That being said people who have agressive dogs shouldn't have them out unless they are controlled very well. it doesn't sound like this one was. Michelle |

I just found out that they let dogs IN the stores last weekend. I went there because the weather was nice and I knew there were a lot of dog people there plus I wanted to check out Muttropolis a pet boutique store. I kept on seeing people walking their dogs in and out of various stores so I asked the concerige desk about it and they told me that dogs are welcome in most stores and to ask a clerk before bring them in. It felt really weird walking in Victoria's Secret with Jazzie. I had her in my arms but the clerks insisted I let her down... I kept on feeling like I was doing something bad...

I guess I'm too trusting and just assume most people are more responsible and if they own an animal that has the temperment to be unpredictable, they wouldn't take their pet to a crowded place." ---------------------------------------- With small little dogs like we Yorkie owners have (or any other dog for that matter) -- we just can't assume that all the dogs we meet in public places are friendly....because, unfortunately, they aren't. And - I agree - I don't understand why people take their "not-so-friendly dogs" out to public places around other animals. Perhaps they are trying to better socialize their dogs - but public malls may not be the best place to do this. Or - perhaps - they just don't know any better. Don't we all know that there are some very bad mannered dog owners in this world. We meet them everywhere. My advise is never assume another dog is a friendly dog -- until you know for sure. I think most dogs are friendly - especially the ones whose owners spend time with them and take them places........ but, we need to always be prepared for the occasional one that isn't. ***** And - as you experienced -- it is often the smaller dogs that are the most aggressive. Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Pom is not reliable around strange dogs so I NEVER take her anywhere unless she is in my arms. I hold her at the vets and lately the neighbor kids have taken a liking to her and Cali and I always make sure that i am right next to Maya's mouth. She seems to like kids but I never trust her. People need to know their dogs temperment and act accordingly

| That dog sounds like my boxer, and we rarely take him out in public unless we have too. Even in the car hes barking nonstop at other cars, and when he sees people its the end of the world for him. We cant take him out because number 1, we dont want him to attack anyone, and number 2, it's very embarrasing when you have a dog barking and howling nonstop at every little thing. Did you give the lady a glare back? lol |

| WRONG --- ". . . it's Southern California where all the weird people are." AND WRONG AGAIN ---- "If you have money, anything goes . . . " ------------------------------------ Come on you guys! We all know that there are bad-mannered people with ill-mannered dogs all over the world ---regardless of where they live or how much money they have. ------------------------------------ Personally, I lived in Southern California for more than 20 years and had a lot of wonderful friends with a wide variety of incomes who had great pets. ----------------------------------- Carol Jean |
