| Puppy Mill rescue Yorkie Girl Yesterday afternoon we got a little girl Yorkie from a lady who rescued her from a puppy mill, or perhaps she is a back yard breeder and the dog was hers. It has all been a little suspicious, but we have her now. This little girl is very sweet, very quiet, but so far has only eaten a little chicken, and neither I or my s/o have seen her go pee. I had her outside today, and she took to the leash quickly, but no pee or pooh. We think she drank water, but she hasn't eaten since lunch. The name we were given was Peaches, but she doesn't show any recognition of that name. She does cuddle a bit, and is warmer to me than to Darrell. She just looks so sad. I have absolutely no complaints about her, I just want to put the spark back into those Yorkie brown eyes that I know is supposed to be there. We will be visiting the vet this week for a full work up. I was just wondering if anyone on this forum has any experience and has any advice. We are already in love with this girl, and so is our Papillon, which on it's own is totally amazing. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT. Bless your big heart for taking this little girl in, and for being willing to bring her back to life...I know you'll get her there bc it's clear you care. It may just take some time for her to adjust and for her to make the connection that she can now live the life of luxury, of love, of fun, of being cherished. It's probably all SO foreign to her right now, since she may have been treated before as just a commodity, literally. Just keep loving her and showering her w/ attention, and talk to her. Hopefully some others who've been thru this will chime in too...

| I agree with Ann that it may take some time to adjust. Even dogs who come from the best of circumstances can be a little nervous when moving to a new home with new humans. Regarding the potty concerns -- my Teddy was 8 months old when we picked him up and he was really shy about going in front of us. He tried to hide it. Sometimes it is not obvious when they are peeing. Give her time and she will eat, drink, and potty when she really needs to. You can also change her name and find one that she responds to. We changed Teddy's, who was originally Tank. Best wishes for your new girl to flourish in your care.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | If you haven't already tried it, you may find treats help pave the way. Also, I agree with the name change idea. If she does know her name, she may associate hearing her name with bad things. Change it to something you like and she seems to respond to😊 |

| Welcome to YT! I agree with what the others have said. It just takes time. We got our Anna from a shelter 2 years ago this May. She was much older than yours, estimated to be around 6 or 7 years. It took her a while to get used to being a "pet". She warmed up to me pretty quickly and loved/loves sitting in my lap. But it took her a while to become playful. As a matter of fact, last night was the first time that she actually went and got a toy to play with. That sad look will eventually be replaced. Give her time. You may want to try training Peaches to do tricks. This really helped Anna develop confidence. It will also help to get her to eat. My Barney won't hardly eat food in a dish, but if it's a reward, he's all over it.

| Welcome to YT, and thank you for rescuing this little girl. Measure the amount of water you give her, start with 1/2 a cup, when you change the water measure again to see if she drank and how much she drank. Make sure your other pup is not drinking from the same water bowl. Hand feed her if you must, this will let you see how much she is eating and can be reported to the vet. I agree with Wylie's Mom and Maximo, it takes a bit of time for these precious little souls to adjust to new environment, new ppl, and new fur buddy. If she is cuddling with you that is a good sign, the start of bonding, she will warm up to Darrell in her own time. It's awesome your little Pap. is showing friendly interest also. The sad part of a rescue is we will never know of their past. Continue what you are doing, show her warmth, love, speak softly to her, she will come around and that yorkie sparkle will come through. Take notes of her food and water intake, take notes of all she does or does not do, have this on hand when you take her to the vet so you can discuss this. I have a little 3 y/o rescue, he is with me 14 months now, he was not abused, he was loved much and spoiled rotten, he was surrendered due to owner finances, I am very fortunate as I keep in contact with prev. owner and found out about all the stress this little boy went through with prev. owner BF. He bonded fast with me, but, for the first 2 days he watched me very closely, he coming from the city, now living in the country, I think running free in the back yard won him over lol. I got him when he was 2 1/2 years old, his name was Theodore, to long a name for me, I changed it to Cody, in 3 days he answered to it. If this little girl does not respond to her given name you can re-name her, just keep repeating it, treat reward, praise, happy dance when she responds. Good luck and please keep us posted on her new life with you.

| Thank you everyone for the responses. This afternoon I heard a different noise and peeked around and she let loose a pee pad full of urine. Then she pooped. I saw a distinct look of relief on that sad face. I did a quiet high pitched Good Girl, Good Girl. She followed me around for a bit, then went a laid on a small blankie of fleece I keep on the floor. Belle went over to the pad and checked it out, then to her and sniffed. Suddenly a kong toy Belle didn't like appeared after months of being (lost). Belle placed it in the middle of the pee pad. Hmmm... lol ok. Tonight we discussed it and decided to call her Baby. We had home made hot wings for supper, and I had fed baby some plain chicken I made for her and Belle. She ate well, and drank a cup of water. Belle was in dog heaven. lol Well, this is a pic of Belle, I don't understand why Baby's pic won't upload. it says it is too large a file. | Wonderful she finally peed and pooped, awesome. Funny Belle put un-liked toy on pee pad lol, these pups are too funny. Pics I take with my cell phone, I email them to me, then save to a folder on my desk top. When I want to attach to send to YT I have an option of large, med. small, original size, I can't say what size works lol, some come large, some come small lol. My digital camera is best, but my cell is always with me.

| Thanks Matese, the pic i have of Peaches is from my phone, I will check on making it smaller in the settings. Last night Belle and Peaches were sharing a pillow, so cute. I currently have the Influenza A, you know, the one the shot didn't cover. But am feeling better, and will try and get them both out for a walk. Plus, I am going to try training both dogs to come using a technique I found on this forum. So glad I joined. I have found great tips here. |

| Good for you. That's wonderful. How old is Baby? Did they tell you? I got Annie last spring from a rescue who got her from a back yard breeder who was keeping her in a rabbit hutch in their garage. She was 4.5 months old. She acted just like your Baby. Frightened and unsure of everything. She would walk around people instead of going up to them. I think she sat on my feet for about 2 weeks before she venture away from me. As the others have said, it just takes time and love and she'll come around. Annie barely ate either. I hand-fed her for awhile so she would get used to the fact that the food was actually there for her. I pee pad trained her with Blue Buffalo Bits (little soft hearts that I break in half). She knows 'go potty' and notifies me to come look so she can get her treat. Took awhile but she's 100% trained now. I even had to teach her stairs. She could go up but not down. I really got a workout going up and retrieving her! Use this forum frequently. Everyone here is very willing to help with anything you need to know. I'm so thankful to them all. |

| Thank you Rescue mom 51. We landed on the name Sugar for our new little girl. I realized I called Darrell baby, and Belle baby, so THAT wouldn't work. lol I asked for help of my Facebook friends and family, and several people liked the name Sugar, and so did I. Today I went and did some shopping at the WalMart and spent a couple of hours. When I got home Sugar jumped down from the divan and was at the steps waiting for me with wagging tail alongside Belle. I am taking her in to the Vet's office tomorrow. I keep finding little things, like, I cleaned her ears yesterday, and a huge glop of brown came out, I need to know if she is healthy, and if not, what we need to do to get her there. I am so hoping she is alright. Her little breasts are quite saggy, so I wonder if she weened fairly recently, also her meatus is swollen. ? heat coming on? ? pregnancy? We need to know more, so to the vet's we go. I will keep ya'll informed. Thanks again. |

| Ok. Sugar sounds like a great name. I did the same thing. First trip was to the vet. I had the same proplem with her ears. Had to have them flushed out twice to get rid of the hair and dirt. Annie had terriblely runny eyes and it took 2 months of cleaning her face daily to get it under control. Vet thought she had some allergies. She's fine now. I just keep the hair cut really short around her eyes. Don't be afraid to ask the vet tons of questions. I actually took a written list.... Felt like I was taking a child to the pediatrician! Do remember to get her neutered. She'll be much healthier. Keep us posted on your new girl. |

| She sounds like a little sweetie pie that is just now experiencing love. Your little Belle is such a trooper to step in and help her sister adapt to her new home (even if she's placing toys on the potty pads). Ah maybe she telling her "here sis it's yours put your scent on it!

| How wonderful, see she's coming around. It's so good Belle has taken to her. I think they will be great buds very soon. Sugar has found her furever home. Please let us know how the vet visit went.

| You and your Baby are very blessed to have one another. I agree that patience and love will go a long way in Baby's sense of comfort and security. I just paid real close attention to Piper's reactions to different things and adjusted my behavior accordingly...For example, she doesn't like water being poured into her bowl, so I do so very carefully if she's right there--no splashing. And she didn't know how to play, so toys kinda scared her--especially squeaky ones...Of course, now Piper has her own varied and assorted collection of well-worn squeaky toys. But you know what? They're all tiny squeaks, y'know--nothing too piercing. You're obviously a truly loving and caring 'mom' and Baby will be ruling the roost before you know it! So happy for you and yours! And your little Papillion is just too sweet in willingness to help! "The average dog has one request to all humankind. Love me.." Joe Garagiola |
