| I need eyeryone's help, Please. Impt. Question. For anyone who knows me from here I lost my little Lucy Tuesday around 11:30 a.m. I would rather not discuss what happened so please don't ask. Thank you. She was only 14 weeks and we only had her 6 weeks but she was the love of my life. (She was my first inside dog) Ok now here's what is happening - I know some of you will think it is to soon but my husband and I have decided to get a new puppy right away. It's not to replace our little girl b/c no dog will ever replace her but we feel like there's a big chunk missing from us and we have to much love to give not to have another little puppy to spend it on. We are going friday to boone ( about 2 1/2 hrs. away ) to look at a new little girl. She is 9 weeks old. Here is what's concerning me . The lady told my husband that she had a small umbilical hernia that she got from birth. She just had surgery to remove last week. Has anyone heard of this. Is there any problems or complications that can come from this. I may one day like to have a litter with my mom's male yorkie, could this possibly cause problems with the pregnancy. Thanks for your help Crysta Sander |

| Crysta - I have no information for you, but I want to express my deepest sympathies for the loss of your baby. Even though you only had her a few weeks, she made an impression on your heart. Good luck with finding a new baby to care for and love. She can't take the place of your first puppy, but she can help you to fill the hole and move on. Merry Christmas. |

| Sorry to hear about your baby girl... I am happy to hear that you have decided to get a new puppy. I am sorry I can't help you with the hernia question, but wanted to say good luck with the new baby. It may be a good idea to wait to pick the puppy up until after the holidays, though, so your home will be a bit more quiet and calm for the little one's first days. I have to question, though, with all the breeders in NC, why would you purchase a puppy that you know has health issues? But if you have your heart set on this one, best of luck to you and I hope someone can answer your question.

| Hi Crysta! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! We had a black lab that we lost just a few months ago, and that was the first dog I had ever had that we had gotten as a puppy! You become so attached, and it's really hard to lose them! I would like to tell you that from my experience.....Lexy (the lab) had a hernia and when I first noticed it, I took her to the vet, and he told me that they are quite common and as long as they stay the same size and don't get really hard, it would be okay to wait until we got her spayed to have it removed, which is what we did! She had it for probably 2 years before it was removed, and she was just fine! I would think your little girl would do even better since she has had hers removed so early in life! I do have a question though....are you still having to pay full price for her? I don't know....I'm not a breeder, and I've only purchased one Yorkie in my life, so I'm not an expert, but I would think you would get a discount because of the hernia AND surgery, ya know? Anyway, I hope all goes well with your new baby! I wouldn't turn away from her because of that, BUT also I have NO idea if that will affect her having babies in the future, so I'll leave that to someone with experience! God Bless You!! |

| Just wanted to say that I understand completely about wanting another puppy ASAP! I don't blame you at all. Try posting your questions on the Breeder's board. They can probably answer your questions! |

YT 5000 Club Member | I am sooo sorry about you losing your little Lucy! And I am not sure about the hernia, I know that Gidget had one also when we got her, but it went away! The breeder also informed us if we were ever to breed her that they can reoccur! I am not a breeder and don't plan on breeding her, but that is what I was told! Good luck on finding your new baby!

Donating YT 14K Club Member | here it is in case you missed the other one... umbilical hernias can happen when the mom tugs on the chords too much or too hard. It happens and is not hereditary. NOW, abdominal hernias ARE hereditary and should NOT be bred. But you can tell the difference when you go look. Ask to see the surgery scar. If it's by the belly button, then you should be safe. But, if in doubt, call your vet and ask them. Best of luck!

| Sorry about your little one! I have always wanted to ask this question so here goes! Why would you like to breed your puppy? I don't mean as a puppy but when you are in the looking stages. I have often wondered but decided today to ask.

| I don't have any information for you in regards to the corrective surgery for hernias. I can say that I have had 2 dogs, a dauchsand at about age 10 and a peke at age 18/19, both of whom had hernias and both of whom died as a result. As I said, I was 10 the first time and have little recolection about it, but as for my peke: now I was 15 when I got him and do not remember all of the details regarding the diagnosis, but I do remember we were told that they were not uncommon and he would most likely experience complications if he became overheated. He stayed indoors in the cool, but apparently he got to hot anyway. It ruptured and he died as a result. Because of this, I personally would stay clear of a dog with the problem present. This is not to say the pup won't live a long life and it is not something that can't be corrected. Just my opinion based on passed experience. My outlook is, if by not selecting that pup you can eliminate one possibility, why not do so. I realize that this is not fair to pups who have it...like I said, this is just MY preferance. |

| [ No dear its not to early to get another pup.. I see red flags though with this pup. A good Yorkkie breeder keeps their pups untill they are 10 weeks old annd has them tested for LS first before they go out the door. Please consider these 2 factors. If you are already set to get this dog, I would have the breeders vet fax to your vet a copy of all the pups records including surgical records and lab work. so you can get a second opinion from your vet firstt before buying her. If she refuses to do this before you finalise the sale she is nothing more than a BYB !!! You have had one early loss, you want to be super picky this time and have every right too.. |

Glad I could give you a perspective to look at. I know you will find one perfect for your home...having to be patient really stinks sometimes and it is very hard to make yourself say "no, this is not right" when you want one so badly. In the end, I think you will be much happier if you wait to find just the perfect friend. I will tell you, it was heartbreaking to wake up and find that had happened to my poor Chachi. Not something I want to have happen again! Good luck! | |
