| Need advice on where to go from here pls Hey everyone. This morning my husband got out of bed to take his shower before work and Riley was all snuggled next to me. Well I guess the sound of DH getting dressed and such was just to interesting and he JUMPED off my bed!! I am still in shock over it. He was/is fine though thank goodness. I felt him move around so I sat up and was calling him to me and he bounds down the bed and jumped on purpose, I know he didn't fall I saw him actually puff his little bottom up and leap like a cat pouncing. I screeched so loud my DH cut himself shaving and runs into the room which made Riley very happy and he starts doing his twirling pick me up daddy let's play thing. Now that I know he isn't afraid to do that I am nervous about him sleeping in the bed. I am wondering how long it will take him to get used to going to sleep in his xpen. Hubby thinks I am overeacting cause he is fine but what if he would have broken his leg or his little neck? I can't risk that. I would have never left him alone on the bed, I assumed cause one of use was still there then he wouldn't have felt the need to do that of course I haven't found anything yet he is afraid of. The stinker is all attitude. I was busy with something on the couch last night and didn't pick him up when he tried to get up there so he growls under his breath at me and stomped his feet!! I love it but it is unlike anything I have ever seen in a dog. He is gonna give me a run for my money I am sure! lol What would you do if you were me. He is 11wks on Monday and weighs about 2.5 pounds for those that don't know.

| Time to build a ramp or steps. ZoE was 17 weeks old before she attempted to jump off my bed & she's a a big strong pup. I built a ramp that same day! I then trained her to go up & down it. She still prefers I lift her onto the bed at night, but the ramp is how she gets down in the morning.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | If you want him to sleep in, or even be on your bed, you need to invest in some dog steps or a ramp. You're not over-reacting, I've known of many yorkies that broke legs from jumping off beds and couches. As far as how long it would take for him to get used to sleeping in an ex-pen, IDK for certain as I've never trained one of mine to use their ex-pen for sleeping. And...Oh my...your poor hubby cutting himself shaving! Ya, you definitely need some steps.....you don't want to have to take your hubby and Riley to the E.R.

No Longer a Member | I'd say get some steps, Rizzo hopped of the bed for the first time ever over the weekend when bf was visiting. Guess he thought the bed was too crowded? So temporarily using a step stool that he can use to jump on the bed and a full laundry basket that he can use to get down. I know I cant regress from here, he wouldn't understand having to go from the bed back to his crate. Getting a friend to build me some stairs to use, he said they'll be ugly, but they'll do the job. |

| I just got some steps for Remy. She jumps off the bed all the time. It is a game to her, but she is older and between 4.5 and 5 pounds. She can't get back up so I got steps and she loves them!!!! I got them from Diannent from yt

| I called the hubby at work (he is a cabinet specialist at Lowe's) and told him to work up some ideas for ramps or steps for us before he leaves for the day. Until they would be ready the laundry basket and step stool is a good idea. I don't honestly want him out of our bed, I just want him to be safe.

| Jumping should be discouraged as luxating patella can occur spontaneously and affects toy breeds. I have foam steps from www.petstairz.com and love them. A member here, Diannet, now sells some wood ones as well. Mine every now and then will seem to want to jump (like if a prized possession goes flying off the bed and they want to dive for it) and I have been there to say "Use your Stairs" and they do. I clicker trained my dogs to use stairs, and it was very easy. Even Teddy learned it quickly, although sometimes he rests on the stairs in between using them, or hangs out on them and has to be redirected. Definitely time for stairs/ramp so this jumping comes to a halt, it is really quite dangerous for a yorkie.

| That is so scary! Their little bones are so tiny and can break easily! Bevo broke his leg at 10 months from jumping off the couch. He has never tried to jump off our bed thankfully, but I do have stairs in both places. (he never uses the stairs to the bed though)(I guess once hes there, hes tired and sleeps like a baby!) Yup..you need stairs for your brave little one!

| I wholeheartedly agree with everybody else - get a ramp or steps now before something really bad happens. These doggies just often do not think before they go - they just react too fast for us to grab them. Tibbe is a maniac when he's like that and he's way too fast for me to catch. In the den, besides his dog steps I now have his big Cloud Nine bed from YHR Boutique placed up next to the couch beside those steps so he's got sort of double protection in here. He can still jump over the steps and bed when he's really manic over something he's just heard and rushing to check out but at least these things mitigate as much as possible the chance of an injury.

| Stairs!! Many years ago I had a tiny poodle, she jumped 8" from a recliner and broke her leg. If your hubby would be willing to pass the stair plans along and share I would be very grateful. I have 4 older dogs that have NO business jumping anymore and Mina only weighs 3lbs. and jumping for her is not a good idea either. I am so glad that your baby is ok!!! |

♪♥ Jazi & Izi's Mom ♥♫ Donating Member | I've been worrying about the same thing. Thanks for all the advice. My other dog is a 3 yr old Cairn Terrier and I'd swear she has springs on her feet! Jazi tries to copy everything she does so I'm so afraid she's going to imitate her jumping and she's only 3 lbs at 18 wks. Time for the ramp/stairs.

| I also have stairs, Chloe uses them all the time, Armani is like 50/50 with them, so I invested in a nice platform bed that is very low to the ground, so when he does choose to jump it is not such a big deal.
