If you want him to sleep in, or even be on your bed, you need to invest in some dog steps or a ramp. You're not over-reacting, I've known of many yorkies that broke legs from jumping off beds and couches. As far as how long it would take for him to get used to sleeping in an ex-pen, IDK for certain as I've never trained one of mine to use their ex-pen for sleeping.

And...Oh my...your poor hubby cutting himself shaving! Ya, you definitely need some steps.....you don't want to have to take your hubby and Riley to the E.R.
