| Remy may have kennel cough!! Remy was spaded last Tuesday. A few days after I noticed a sound like a reverse sneeze. I was afraid it was a Tracheal Collapse -- or somehow her trachea was damaged in the procedure. My dh took her in to our vet today and he said the vet said she had Kennel Cough -- he gave her a shot (dex?) and some medication. I guess Kennel Cough is better than a damaged trachea.. but if I have not had Remy out with other dogs, my other dogs are fine, and she has had her shots... how did she get kennel cough?? I think she got it when she was at the vets .. what do you think? Any advice on being sure she is ok.. the medication the vet gave us of course... Thanks for the help! Shinja

| I had the EXACT same thing happen when Sugar went in for her dental/non spay She is ONLY now (almost 2 months later) not coughing and sneezing as much. My AAHA vet says it is VERY common and will take a LONG time to go away with the little tracheas She gave me something for her cough. She is 90% better now.....still 10% honkey

Oh my!! I am so sorry! Dumb question, so did she get it at the vets?! I don't know much about it. I do know that when I went to get Rosie's shots they asked me if she went to a groomer and when I said yes they gave her the Kennel Cough vaccine.

Thank you! That makes sense. Just like the many strains of the flu! Lol. Is it from not cleaning very well or do you think she was exposed that day? I really hope Remy gets well soon! Sending a get well wish and a prayer her way. Keep us updated.

| it's so contagious that even just a little virus in the air from a cough or sneeze can make another dog sick with it. boarding kennels and vets are a prime example of a place to pick it up, groomers are also dangerous grounds for the virus and dog parks. most places do their best to keep coughing dogs out and sanitize areas where dogs have been placed, but we're human and get lazy in our jobs and some of us (NOT ME I'M A GERMAPHOB) do not clean well. prob. just caught it off another dog or in the air at the vets. |

Kennel Cough is highly contagious. I think the incubation period is 3 to 5 days from time of exposure. You can even bring it home to your dogs on your shoes or hands if you come in contact with the virus. I think the vaccination only lasts for about 6 months so if your other dogs have not been vaccinated recently they can get it. It takes a week or longer for them to get over the cough.

What is dex? And did he give you any other medication/s? Just curious. My Mia is still coughing without any other symptoms. Just a cough cough cough then a choke. It's been well over a month. It's not as much now, but still there and mostly at night / early morning. Not too much if at all during the day. Just wondering what your vet put her on and if it is helping. Thanks Elaine | |

| Jackson has had kennel cough twice now. Both times after I let his bordatella vaccine "expire" so I always keep it up to date now. Luckily, both times he had it were cleared up with 7 days of antibiotics.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | When I brought home Cali she had kennel cough and gave it to my older pom. t took 2 rounds of antibiotics and 3 months to clear up completely. Just watch for any signs of pneumonia.
