| SCARED W/O an ID Tag Of Yorkie Getting POSSIBLY Lost & idk..aside from someone with morals like me, and you folks, ...who might return a cute expensive little yorkie without a massive reward, which i'm sure i'd do 4 my baby, but i hear about dog snatchers and suff, they likely even select breeds like this, and i'm in NY....people aren't like idaho here, but me..i'd ALWAYS return a dog, but if you don't have a collar with a tag on it, which my 'to be' pup seems just too too tiny to put a collar and ID tag on, IF someone were moral enough to return my baby, and damned will i do everything in my power to make sure that little one never gets lost, but i just wanna ask....can a yorkie like 2-3 lbs, safetly wear a harness? could you POSSIBLY attach a id tag to the harness if so? not that they would even be wearing it all of the time, but i can't see myself ever just letting her 'roam free' even out back, without making sure there is no escape route, or a pen for a real long time. I'll tote her around in a soft carrier with her head out, and keep her as safe as humanly possible, but...we all worry right? what are your thoughts? she's likely 1+ lbs right now...gonna be 3-4, breeder says closer to 3, i can't feel comfortable personally, but do not knock anybody that does, about putting a collar on her at that size. the harness seems safer. aslo about microchipping...too bad they don't have GPS chipping, that i could go for, but the microchipping, do alot of you guys and gals do that? do people KNOW to go and check for the chip IRL? how do they do that anyhow? i'm clueless on this subject. does it hurt them to be put in? approximate costs? do u feel it's worth it? aside from that and info on the harness and id tag, would be terrific. i wouldn't feel good w/o any id on her. at home, no worries, but ukwim. maybe have the info printed on a dress, or embroidered, lol, if they do that. thoughts? michelle |

| Even if she is small I still think you should walk her. Dogs are happier and healthier if they get exercised. You can buy small harnesses, I don't see the problem. Get two ID tags one for the harness one for the collar. Use the collar when you are indoors. I've seen a 1 lb Chihuahua puppy while volunteering at the vets and even she had a collar. I don't see how it would hurt them... I use Aspen harnesses but I don't think it would get small enough for your dog. I have a harness made by "TUFF" and it can fit really small dogs. I like Red Dingo ID tags: Stainless Steel with Enamel Just go to your pet store and pick one out that you like.

| I'm always afraid to keep a collar on my babies in the house because I'm afraid they will get hung up on something or eachother when playing. I know there are harnesses with their contact information embroidered on them. My babies are all microchipped but I never see the vet check to see if it is my dog or not. I recently had my Trixie to the emergency vet and they didn't check her chip to see if she was registered to me. I thought all vets were supposed to check when they have a new patient to make sure the dog is not a lost or stolen dog Anyway welcome from a fellow Long Islander. I'm with you, I could never just keep a dog that was lost knowing there is a family out there hurting and worrying. I would do everything in my power to make sure they were reunited again. Welcome to YT there are very knowledgeable friendly people here who pretty much have an answer to anything. Good luck with your baby.

| I always keep a collar and tag on all of mine. Two weeks ago Bogey got out of the yard when my son left the side gate open. My husband was in the yard with all 4 of them and when the woman called to say she had him it was because of his tag not a chip. She was so nice when I showed up in tears and told me that it was great that he had his collar and tag so she could find call me immediately to let me know she had him. IMO I would never not keep a collar on mine. It is just way to great of a chance that something might happen and I would never be able to get over it....EVER! You can buy a cat collar that has elastic or the break away clasp and add the tag. Doodlebug was a little over 2 lbs when I brought him home and when I went to pick him up I had a collar and tag with me.

| That is a good idea I like the idea of a breakaway collar. You know your damned if you do and damned if you don't. On the one hand you want to keep them safe and on the other you want them back if they get lost. I will try the breakaway cat collar because they are very lightweight.

YT 1000 Club Member | My vet has Roxie's file and she's gone there ever since I got her at 10 weeks. The vet knows she's mine because of records they keep. I can see if someone walks into a vet with a dog they've never had there before or are new to that vet, then the vet should check to see if it's chipped or registered to the person bringing it in. From what I understand not all vets have a chip reader which they should. Hubby is making Roxie a tracker with led lights on it so that if for any reason she gets lost or stolen we can start tracking her right away. Before my daughter had a tracker and tags for her dog she took permanent marker and wrote the info right onto the collar. We don't do collars in the house, only when we're going someplace. She gets excited to put on her collar and harness. She'll bring it to me out of the blue sometimes. I guess that means she wants to go somewhere.

| As a rule I dont keep Missy's collar on in the house. I use a harness on her with her tags on her collar. I have a fear it will get caught on something. I have a completely fenced in yard. Two weeks ago she saw something on my front lawn and somehow went under the gate after it. It was the worst experience of my life. I got in my car, crying while driving and drove the way I usally walk her, with no luck whatsoever. I have heard stories from people who have gone through similar situations but could not have imagined how I would feel. Even though she is microchipped my fear is someone picking her up and not even checking to see if she had a chip and just deciding to keep an adorable yorkie. Well about a half hour later she came walking up the front steps. I was so happy that she came back but it was a terrible experience. |

I really suggest you at least go for the harness, which you can put tags on. Depending on how small your dog is you may need to buy a specialty one. Not sure how small the puppia ones go, but they are great and you can always get a custom made harness from ChattiesMom. You never know what might happen since life is unpredictable... | I've never had issues with collars or ever heard of many issues with collars. I think it's worth it to have a collar with tags on at all times (except for maybe bed time). If Jackson slips out my door and wasn't wearing a collar... I'd be very upset. He is microchipped as well. Get the pup a break-away cat collar! They're very lightweight and if it were to get caught, they break away.
