IMO I would never not keep a collar on mine. It is just way to great of a chance that something might happen and I would never be able to get over it....EVER!

You can buy a cat collar that has elastic or the break away clasp and add the tag. Doodlebug was a little over 2 lbs when I brought him home and when I went to pick him up I had a collar and tag with me.
It's good you took the collar and tag with you. Earlier this summer a lady had gotten a 2 year old chi from someone in another town. This little thing had just had puppies like 8 weeks before and was already sold and re-homed. That poor little dog must have been in a terrible state of mind. The lady got it to her house and put it in her fenced in back yard. It was running around her yard franticly and found a gap under the fence and was gone. It was spotted a few times and I saw it in my neighborhood. I was walking towards it and then the lady had her neighbor and his kids come running and it took off naturally. I felt so sorry for it. I don't think it ever was found. I wondered why she didn't do things differently untill it got just a little bit used to her. Anyway it broke my heart. When you said you took your collar and tags with you I thought that was very smart.
