| ♥ I hurt my Missy ♥ (just got home from the vet) She always wants to come downstairs with me when I take my pug dog Tang out to pee. So, I picked them up one under each arm and carried them downstairs. My pug dog has spondalitis, so she can't do the stairs on her own. All was fine, until I carried them back upstairs. I put my pug down, then when I went to put Missy down on the carpet at the top of the stairs she kind of leaped out of my hand just as she was almost at the carpet level (maybe 3 inches off the ground). She's done this many times before, and is quite the jumper (can almost get up onto the couch), but this time she kind of landed wrong with all her weight on her right front leg and it was enough to seriously hurt her. She was yelping like crazy, I just knew something was wrong. So I did a little check to see if she could move it at all. Any time I touched it she freaked out, even though I was being very gentle. I grabbed my phone booked, flipped to the yellow pages, found the closest vet to me that was open on a Sunday and BEGGED them to see her immediately. I grabbed my wallet, hopped in the car, and off we went. I had her in the examination room less than 15 mins after she got hurt. The vet examined her and suspects that it's likely not fractured, but the only way to tell is by putting her under anaesthetic and doing an xray. He is a bit hesitant to put her under anaesthic for an xray because of her size, and also because he suspects it likely isn't fractured. He felt it was OK to give her a shot of pain medication and let her rest until tomorrow, and just see if she starts to use it a bit by tomorrow. If she's not any better we will do xrays tomorrow and treat whatever is wrong. He also gave me pain medication to bring home for her to have for the next few days if the xrays end up being unnecessary. He said whether it's a sprain/strain or worse, it will take a good couple of weeks to heal. My poor baby. I feel SO bad This is just a sad reminder of how incredibly fragile these tiny ones are. I just hope she feels better soon.

| Aww, poor little Missy and poor you! I'm so glad she is okay. Accidents happen so don't beat yourself up- you weren't being neglectful. Sending you both hugs!

| Aww don't blame yourself, accidents happen I am sure she will be fine, perhaps she just twisted something in her foot and needs a little time off of it. I know when Stormy jumped off the couch once, which is very low and was limping for a couple days, she was back to normal. Keep her off her foot a bit and just lots of love. |

| Stuff happens. Don't be upset with yourself. I'm just a bit confused about the anesthesia thing. Ellie has had an xray and an ultrasound without it. Maybe it is just a Canadian thing? Sometimes the techs aren't allowed to hold the patient and continuously be exposed to radiation as far as I know but some places may try to do it without anesthesia.

| Bless her heart and yours, its nothing you did don't blame yourself, Tarra jumped or was pushed off by one of her sisters or brothers and shattered her elbow. I was going to tell you they can do x-rays without putting them under. I have never had one put under for x-rays but maybe thats the way he does it, but I would check around different vets before I let them do that to her.

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | So sorry this accident happened to Missy! Hope she will be just fine! I know you are so worried & I don't want to scare you, just want to inform you to be careful what pain meds were prescribed for Missy?? She is such a tiny little thing! There are threads discussing how some Vets are not aware of not giving certain meds to our tiny babies. When Bella was spayed & teeth extracted, I also questioned giving the pain med. Pls just read this & be informed. Do your research on what pain med was prescribed. HUGS to you & little Missy!! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...re-thread.html

Donating YT Addict | hope your little one gets better soon. Tyke scares me like that too. one day he jumped off the couch and came down on his right front foot instead of both. then he was limping but he didn't make a sound. I picked him up and rubbed it and then he run around fine. But I do know how they are. they think they are these big tuff dogs....lol wishing her well

| The vet said because of the position that he would have to hold her in for the xray, it would be very painful for her. The injury seems to be at the top of her leg, like where her elbow would be. That is why she would have to be put under anesthesia. Do you all think this isn't the case? If that's not true, I will have her xray'ed right away, just to be safe. He seemed like a really good vet. I trusted what he said. She is not putting any weight on it at all. She does sort of move it, like she will change positions and stuff, and she will lay on that side. She doesn't touch her paw to the ground though at all. I just hand fed her some food and water. She ate quite a bit. I'm not sure how she's going to go to the bathroom though. It might be tricky. Thanks for all the kind comments. I feel awful and I'm really beating myself up over this. I'm angry at myself and nothing will make me feel any better. I am suppose to protect her and keep her safe. I won't feel better until she does.

| So sorry this happened -- try not to blame yourself, things happen. She knows that you love her !! Like the others have said, I don't understand why they said she has to be put under to do xrays -- never heard of that. If I were you I would check with your vet or another vet to see what they say. Hope she is better very quicly !!!
