I hope she will be back to her "normal" self quickly. I'm interested in what your regular vet says about it. I can understand why the other vet may want to put her under if the positioning would be really painful. I wonder why they don't just give her some stronger pain meds to do it?

It's not your fault!!! So many little ones do something like this and hurt their legs. I am getting paranoid with my own. We can do everything in our power to keep them safe, but accidents can and do still happen.

Keep us updated!!!

Just a little update on my Missy Mouse.

She seems to be doing quite a bit better. She wants to run around and play, but I'm not letting her. She hasn't yelped once today. She is starting to use that leg a little bit more. She's still not walking on it, but she is doing little things with it like resting it on the floor while she's standing, and standing on her back legs and leaning with both front paws on her ex-pen. She bends it, straightens it, and stretches it. She doesn't seem worried about it touching anything. She will lay on it, or straighten it out in front of her. She will also let me bend it, straighten it, and massage it. She's just not comfortable stepping down on it yet. She doesn't seem to be in pain though (must be good pain killers) because she really wants to jump and run around. I'm just keeping her quiet. I don't want her hurting it worse.

I called my vet. They said it will be fine to just watch her during the day today and see how she does. She is able to move it, and she's happy. It's obviously not a fracture. If I want to bring her in for xrays, I can go tonight (they aren't too busy) before 7:30pm or tomorrow sometime. It seems like she's going to be OK though. She's definitely back to her spunky little self. I'll be happy when she can actually take a step on that foot. That's when I will relax a little, but I guess she just needs to rest. It will take time. They also agreed that she would need to be put under anaesthetic to have it xrayed. It's because the position she would have to be held in would cause alot of pain to her injury and she wouldn't hold still and could bite. They would have to lay her on her back and kind of stretch that leg out and up over her head. I really don't want to have to do that unless I'm sure it's necessary (which I suspect it isn't). I'm going to just follow my instincts and continue to watch how she does for the rest of the afternoon. She is happy and seems to be getting better with rest.

I just want to thank everyone for their advice and support. Particularly those who have been sending me private messages and checked in today to see how we're doing. I really appreciate the support from all of you Yorkie lovers. It means alot.

Shaunna, I think she will be ok. This is EXACTLY how Gucci was acting. The first day was the worst.. After that, he did put a little bit of weight on it when standing but he wouldn't walk on it or anything. By the 2nd night he was walking just a bit on that leg but still had a slight limp. This lasted for a few days but by about mid-week 4th day or so he was back on it and trying to jump and all that good puppy stuff. Of course he couldn't but he was trying.

Our vet had called several times to check on him, and I had let them know how and what he was doing.. they said just keep him in quiet time so he doesn't worsen it. I was so happy to see him "wanting" to jump and run I almost "wanted" him to just to KNOW he was OK.. but I didn't because I knew it could make him so much worse.

It seems Missy is on that same road to recovery, it may take her a bit longer since she is about 3 lbs lighter than Gucci and probably that much more fragile.

Give her big hug GI-normous hugs for Gucci and I

Default Missy, get well soon!

Glad to hear that Missy is getting better. I've dropped Momo before (he's such a wiggle butt!), I know how you felt when Missy got hurt. I was standing & he wiggled up my shoulder & fell. I heard a THUD & I can't remember if he cried or not (I was so shocked). Miraculously, he was ok. This happened after he had an operation to remove a queen palm tree seed that he ingested. He had staples on his tummy too. The reason I'm sharing this story w/you Shauna is to tell you...don't feel bad.

Missy is NOT doing well today. I am just waiting for my regular vet's office to open (in 5 mins) and I will be asking them to see Missy today. She was whimpering throughout the night, she's still whimpering and shaking, and obviously in pain. She's not doing as well as yesterday.

Just thought that I'd let you all know...

I am worried SICK and my vet's phone is busy. I had to leave a message for them to call me back. I hope they do soon! I have a dentist appt today too. I might have to reschedule it to deal with this. Missy was whimpering all night, and I felt so bad for her. It was a terrible sleep. I guess the pain shot and meds she had yesterday were curbing the pain enough to make it appear that she was doing well, but she's really not. I'm concerned about the doseage of the Metacam that this vet told me to give her as well. From what I've read she should be getting half of what he prescribed. He said to give .2ml every 24 hrs, but what I've read is for her weight (2 lbs 9 ozs) she should have that dose on the first day, but then 0.1 ml after that. I can't wait to see the vet.

Was she awake during the night or whimpering/shaking in her sleep?

She'd wake up, but settle back to sleep. She was just uncomfortable, I could tell. Even today, she is unsettled, she keeps whimpering, and if I so much as touch her leg she cries.

The vet called me back, she has an appt for 10:10am. That's in 1.5 hrs. My vet is incredible. They will fix her up.

We're headed to the vet now (hr's drive for us). Please keep positive thoughts for us. I'm hoping she doesn't need surgery or anything. I'll update when we're home.

Thank you so much.

My pug dog has spondalitis, so she can't do the stairs on her own. All was fine, until I carried them back upstairs. I put my pug down, then when I went to put Missy down on the carpet at the top of the stairs she kind of leaped out of my hand just as she was almost at the carpet level (maybe 3 inches off the ground). She's done this many times before, and is quite the jumper (can almost get up onto the couch), but this time she kind of landed wrong with all her weight on her right front leg and it was enough to seriously hurt her. She was yelping like crazy, I just knew something was wrong. So I did a little check to see if she could move it at all. Any time I touched it she freaked out, even though I was being very gentle. I grabbed my phone booked, flipped to the yellow pages, found the closest vet to me that was open on a Sunday and BEGGED them to see her immediately. I grabbed my wallet, hopped in the car, and off we went. I had her in the examination room less than 15 mins after she got hurt. The vet examined her and suspects that it's likely not fractured, but the only way to tell is by putting her under anaesthetic and doing an xray. He is a bit hesitant to put her under anaesthic for an xray because of her size, and also because he suspects it likely isn't fractured. He felt it was OK to give her a shot of pain medication and let her rest until tomorrow, and just see if she starts to use it a bit by tomorrow. If she's not any better we will do xrays tomorrow and treat whatever is wrong. He also gave me pain medication to bring home for her to have for the next few days if the xrays end up being unnecessary. He said whether it's a sprain/strain or worse, it will take a good couple of weeks to heal.

My poor baby. I feel SO bad This is just a sad reminder of how incredibly fragile these tiny ones are. I just hope she feels better soon.
Oh, I am sooo sorry for you guys. Poor babies, BOTH of you!! I totally understand how you feel. I stepped on Wookie once when he was very little. I cried more than he did. You guys will be in my thoughts and prayers. Please let us know how she is doing.

I was wondering though, why they feel the need to put her under for xrays? Wookie had emergency surgery in Oct, and they took 3 xrays of his insides the day before they did surgery and didn't put him under for any of them. I just found that kinda odd....
