Donating YT Addict | Fustrated/ kind of long Please forgive me for venting but I don't understand how some people like we've talked about on here are so irresponsible when it comes to their animals! This morning my daughter that's 17 plays soccer, so she runs every day, to stay in shape.....(and today they didn't have school, so no practice) well anyways she went running on a road not far from us because it doesn't have much traffic. ( we live out in the country) These people on that road have about 4 dogs that just roam where ever they want. The Rottweiler that's not full grown run up behind her and bit her on the back of the leg. Well when she got home I cleaned it up and my husband called the doctor and she was brought in for a tetanus shot and antibotic cream. Well because we have a leash law in our county a sherriff's deputy filed papers and went to the woman's house and told her she had to pay the doctor bill and asked her about the dog having his vaccines. All her other dogs have their shots, this one that bit my daughter hasn't had his. So you can say we were upset. Well my husband went and talked to our vet today and told him what happened. He said that we shouldn't be worried about rabies because it has been many years since a rabies case was reported in the state of MS. He told him that you just have to take care that it doesn't get infected. So to say the least I've had to work today and worry about her.....so it's been a crappy day I just get so aggravated that people don't take care of their dogs. My friend lives across the road from these people....I called her to ask her their last name and she said she hopes they do something to those people because they've always had vicious dogs. I told her the deputy went to her house and she told him she thought they were shut up in the pen....my friend said they are not ever in a pen....they roam wherever they want to. I'm sorry to vent, but i knew you guys would understand where i'm coming from. thanks for listening.... ( oh i forgot to tell you when he bit her it was the back of her thigh...it was 3 wounds....2 were about 1/2 inch long and the other one was smaller. i'm very thankful she didn't have to have stitches)

| I am so glad your daughter is ok, but if something isn't done with those dogs, it will just get worse and more aggressive. What is the county going to do about those dogs running loose? Tell your friend to call and report those people each time she sees any of the dogs loose. Sooner or later the dogs will be picked up.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Wow, I would really be upset. Too many people think that the law doesn't apply to them. I hope your city does something about this; sometimes it takes something like this before people pay attention. I'm not sure what your legal recourse is, but if the dog runs loose after the city has been notified, I would think the city would become liable if they don't do anything about it. I know people are fed up with everyone being "sue happy", but unfortunately that's the only way to get some people to be held accountable for their actions, and that includes the city! I hope your daughter doesn't have too much trouble with this; a bite in the muscle sounds painful.

| Shame on that owner, shame on that sheriff's deputy and shame on your vet. I think your daught should be treated for rabies ASAP. Rabies is fatal and it's often too late by the time it's diagnosed. The preventative treatment is pretty much guaranteed to work and I believe it's much less invasive than it used to be. That owner is endangering the public, her dogs and every dog owner's rights. She shouldn't be aloud to have any dogs, period. Bad enough she let's them run loose, but not all of them are vaccinated! I'm on the fence when it comes to vaccines, but my Rottie get his annual rabies shot like clock work. I believe he would never attack unprovoked, but if anything should ever happen, the fact that he's had his shot could save his life as well as any extra suffering for whoever got bit. Let me get this straight. This owner has a Rottie, who is allowed to run loose, has bitten at least once, and has not been vaccinated and the dipsh*t deputy didn't impound the dog! At the very least the dog should be quaranteened for you daughter's safety. All of those dogs should have been impounded and the owner should have been fined. If I were you, I would find out if there are any formal complaints against that owner. If there are, then the sheriff's dept bares some responsibilty for your daughter's bite as well as any future incidences. For all we know this dog may have bitten before and if the authorities had taken proper action then, your daught wouldn't be going through this. Maybe you should consider moving. Your sheriff's dept actually makes the morons with the local Animal Control here look responsible. At least they take action after a dog bites. Last edited by Harley_chik; 10-10-2008 at 10:45 PM. |

| I'm not sure if the attack was provoked or not, but I would get your daughter treated (human rabies vacc). You can actually get the vaccine AFTER a bite because it takes several months for the virus to activate and cause problems. But I would do it ASAP. I'm not sure if the attack was provoked but any animal that attacks unprovoked and in particular, this dog was unvaccinated should be quarantined for observation.

Donating YT Addict | the dog has been shut up for 15 days and he wasn't provoked by no means. I have to look into what else is being done. These dogs see people in the road and here they come running. As I said eariler, my friend lives across the road from these people and she don't even go walking anymore because they are afraid of the dogs. it's like this, as long as my daughter looked at the dog he backed away like he was going in his yard and when she turned her back to go the opposite way he run up behind her and grabbed her leg. this morning she is doing fine and it's just a little sore. the cuts on her leg look good too. but we are still looking into the situation and things are being handled.

| Justice done - too late for child This happened in my area recently - it's the saddest story! I wish these people had gotten life in prison. Recently a pitt bull dug under 3 fences in 3 yards to end up in my 90 year old grandmother's yard- barking and growling. The owner has yet to even apologize - much less pay for the damage to the yards. RIDICULOUS!! GRAHAM — A Young County jury Friday sentenced Jack Smith and Crystal Watson of Stephens County each to seven years in prison in connection with the dog-mauling death of 7-year-old Tanner Monk of Breckenridge. Each also was fined $5,000. Smith and Watson were the first people convicted under a new Texas statute known as Lillian’s Law, which provides for a charge of attack by dog resulting in death. | We have a leash law too, and when the neighbors dog kept coming in our yard, I called animal control, after 3 warnings, they got a $250 fine...well, these neighbors ended up moving from down behind us to right next door, dog was running lose again, so, called animal control again, the dog is now tied up outside..After I think 2 fines, then they take the dogs here. |

| That's awful to know you have a vicious dog and to let them run loose all the time! The dog I had growing up was animal aggressive and we had her contained at all times. Unfortunately for us, she was an escape artist and would always get loose looking for a fight and as soon as we noticed she was gone, we went running because we knew something would end up hurt badly. Hopefully, your daughter heals quickly with no problems!

| What happened to your daughter is just awful! I have a "soccer" niece who runs just like your daughter. Her Mom and Dad live in the country, too. My niece was chased a couple of times, but luckily wasn't bitten. I bought her pepper spray that fits in the front of her bra and she carries it with her every time she runs now. I talked to her Mom (my sister) and we both hate for her to have to use it on a dog - but the one that chased her is HUGE! I believe this dog was just toying with her the first time, but I know she would be gravely injured if she were attacked by it. I pray that your daughter is all right. Stick to your guns! I hope you can have something done about your situation.

| OMG I'm just glad that the dog didn't hurt her even more Not that a bite like that isn't serious, but it could have been so much worse, scary to think about! Maybe you can enlist the help of your friend that lives across the street from these people, to call Animal Control every time she sees the dogs roaming off leash. If they get enough calls, SURELY they will take the dogs away, hopefully to be rehomed to responsible folk. I hope that the wound doesn't prevent your daughter from enjoying her soccer. We're a soccer family too and I know how important and fun it is to them

YT 500 Club Member | I can't believe that this dog isn't being held since it didn't have it's rabies shot. In most places if the dog bites and hasn't had it's shot, it is held for a specific time to make sure it is healthy. In Minneapolis, if a dog bites, it is put down. My daughter's pastor had a real nice dog that some kids were teasing and throwing things at. Well, it bit one of the kids, and they were forced to put the dog down.
