| difference between a parti and a biewer? Okay this might be a dumb question, but what is the difference between a parti and a biewer? They look the same to me... cute!

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Partis are yorkies with a color variant....meaning not within the standard set by YTCA. They can be akc registered but not shown. There is no color standard placement for partis. Biewers orginated in Germany by Werner Biewer in 1983. His pair of yorkies..produced a litter of these colored puppies. He developed the line and the standard. Biewers have tri colored heads (although there are some with 2), a white tummy, white legs, at least a white tip on their tails, there is no standard to the amount of white or black saddles. Their tails are not docked. They are not recognized by AKC and most are registered in Germany. They are shown in rare breed dog shows.

| IMO partis can have just a chest spot and be called a parti, because a Yorshire Terrier should not have any white to meet the standard for Yorkshire Terriers. The Biewers have a standard and are registered as their own breed. They are able to be shown because of having a standard and registered as their own breed, while the partis would have to show as a Yorkshire Terrier and get DQed from the ring because of the white. All Biewers should be able to be traced back to the original two Yorkshire Terriers that produced that first Biewer. I have been told, but have no proof, that the Biewers and the partis can all be traced back to a kennel in England that raised Yorkies as well as other breeds of dogs. Would love to see the info, but it would probably confuse me. |

| Depends on your definition of a parti. Is a parti a yorkie with white? If so then any yorkie with any amount of white (large or small) would be a parti. |

A yorkie w/ a small blaze on their chest could "possibly" be a parti gene carrier, depending on their lineage.

| Interesting, so a white chest spot is acceptable? Are they allowed to show or is it a fault? 2nd thing I have learned today! Better watch out, my old woman brain may explode! Not a pliable as the young brains of school students. LOL |

I was just saying in my earlier post that AKC will not list them as a parti, unless they are 30% or more white.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Really?? Learn something new every day. How is the coloring substantiated with AKC? Wouldn't that also mean on papers...beside breed it reads parti yorkshire terrier?

| Partis can be listed as Black and Tan w/ parti colors as their markings.

| Many yorkies are born with a white spot/marking on their chest/toes. They usually fill in or fill in most of the way with tan. In the yorkie show ring there can be a "small white spot on the forechest that does not exceed 1 inch at its longest dimension." Many yorkies who have small white spots on their chest have been bred for years together never producing a "parti" colored yorkie, so I find it very doubtful they are carriers.

Is there a general consensus in the Yorkie world as to how the partis acquired so much white in them? 30% white seems like it is quite a bit from a small spot on the chest. Are they attributing it to recessive genes? Just curious as to how it is explained. Last edited by sierrapups; 06-15-2008 at 01:34 PM. Reason: quote box | |
