| WHY ME?!?!?!? Am I a bad mommy?!?!?! Hey yall! My first yorkie is almost three months old and she is 100% anti-crate training. She refuses to be confined. I have tried leaving on Animal Planet, interactive toys, vinegar/water spray, coins in a can, you name it i have tried it. This little brat will bark so much when i leave and confine her to a crate/room until she throws up, EVERYTIME! My question is, if i dont crate train her, will she EVER get potty trained? I know she is still young, but i am afraid that i am not "being a good mommy." At night she will sleep in the crate and let out a little bark every 2-4 hours to let me know she need to go potty, i take her and she goes on the pee pad. But during the day she basically refuses to be confined. I live in an apartment so I am afraid that it will bother the neighbors if she keeps barking like that, and i dont want her to keep throwing up everytime. Am I a bad mommy? Will she eventually get potty trained? She knows she is doing wrong, I think she just hasnt figured out what she is supposed to do yet? Sarah and Fancy the barking machine

| I haven't had to deal with this, so my idea is just what I would try - not what I have tried. At almost three months, I'm guessing Fancy sleeps A LOT. I'd try putting her in the crate with the door open when she falls asleep during the day. When she wakes up, she can wander out. If that works for a few days, start closing the door from time to time. Just an idea. |

| Your not a bad mommy. Some babies just take longer to get the hang of it than others. Hang in there and keep trying. It will get better.

| i had the same problem with my 3 month old, he would whine and howl for an hour straight until he fell asleep only to wake in themiddle of the nite and do the same thing over again. now he only whines for about 5 mins and settles down. tonite he didnt let out a peep when i put him in. i know its hard but dont pay her anymind when she cries put her in there throw a sheet over the cage and leave the room, to help you deal with it you can leave the house. try placing a ticking clock beside the cage as well. dont worry she will get use to the cage soon |

| Crate issues Sarah--you are so not a bad mommy! I was told that crate training was the way to go so I put my little Rockie in there--even for an hour and he would soil his area. So, the vet and everyone else said his crate was too big and that I should get a smaller one so I did that. I think these yorkies are so smart, mine decided to teach me once and for all that he does not like crates in confinment and would continue to soil himself only then he would lay in it because the crate was too small--it only took me one time of pulling him out soaked to try a different route. We then moved to gating him in the tiled kitchen with puppy paper which worked out much better! Good luck--maybe the crate will work in the long run for you==they seem to be so finicky! But, they're also so darn cute and lovable, what can you do! Dawn |

| I don't crate train but that is a personal preference. House training is a full time job 24/7 for several weeks, you cannot let the little one out of your site/mind until the training is accomplished. Most of us work, so if you can devote one entire weekend to getting started then you can make great strides towards getting one trained. There are several great books out that can help, "Cesar's Way", by Cesar Milan is one, another great book called "The New Better Behavior In Dogs" by william E. Campbell that offers some great ideas. His chapter on Housetraining is fairly short, but he goes into the dynamics of training, which I love. There are others out there, but I like the ones that require me to work on ME first and the dog second. The major problem with training is that we speak different languages, we speak with words and dogs learn primarly by body language. Since we cannot teach the dogs to speak English, then we must learn body language "doggie style". |

| Thank all yall for your suggestions! She actually did a great job last night, she was laying on the bed with me but when she got tired she went in her crate by herself then about 4 hours later she jumped on the bed and started kicking my face so I took her potty. She actually "told me" 3 x's last night that she had to go! Now if she would just quit yapping during the day!!!!

| You are not a bad Mom she is still young. Georgie will be 1 at the end of this month, and has never been in a crate even while we are gone during the day (never more than a couple of hours at a time). He is 100% house trained now, it just takes time. Good luck I am sure she will get it. I like the idea Baileypeeps had about leaving the door open to the crate to get her used to it.

| I've never crate trained in my life. Gating mine into a smaller area is the route we always used and it has always worked. Mine are housebroken at around six months of age, too. They'll tell you when they need to go if you pay attention. Good luck to you. We use door bells to go outside or in the garage on pads at night or in bad weather.

| I thought I was being such a mean mother also when I had to put Beasley in his crate! I still do not want to do it, but he would go everywhere in the house if I was not there. At night I just cover half of his crate with a little blanket, and he goes right to sleep, not a peep until I get up to take him out every few hours, then he goes right back in peacefully. Once he is housebroken, then I might put up a little baby gate so he can have the kitchen. I would love to let him have the house all day, but I am afraid that he would chew on wires or something and hurt himself. Do you think that you will always crate her, or give her more free roam of your apt later?
