| Intoducing the new one to the old Hey everyone, I'm hoping somebody will be able to help me or at least give me some advice. I have a 1.5 year old schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle cross) who is absolutely 100% momma's boy He is a very energetic little boy (10 lbs.) and he LOVES to play with other dogs. Problem is, I have a feeling he is about to get very jealous! In one week (Yay!) I am bringing home my baby yorkie. She is very tiny, at 8 weeks she is weighing 1 lb. Does anyone have any suggestions for introducing them? A.J, the schnoodle, has had free access to the house for quite some time so I hate to pen him up and take that away from him. I'm thinking that I will keep the yorkie (KaCee) in a crate out in the living room with me whenever I'm home and let A.J be free as usual. Then when I take KaCee out to play, I will lock A.J up in a room. I also have a 3' x 4' play pen that I think I will put KaCee in when I have to go to work. I'm not sure to let A.J free in the room with the pen or put him in a seperate place. Sorry for the rambling...any help would be greatly appreciated! |

| My 1st Yorkie was a momma's boy & still is a Momma's Boy even after getting 3 more Yorkie friends for him to play with!!! You would be very surprised at how they all took to the new puppy. I never had any trouble with any of them. Now I would leave them with the puppy unattended for about a month or so. All of mine where 6 1/2 -8 wks old when I brought them home & ranged from 1 lb 1oz to 1 lb 7 oz. The little ones can definately take care of themselves at a young age - they pick & pick on the older ones too!

| I would definately say... a gradual introduction is needed. He's definately going to be jealous and its going to be very important to for you to be firm with him when he acts out. Being that your new Yorkie is so small... I would definately never leave them together when they are alone. You might have to limit his ability to roam free in the house, because if you crate train the baby...her ability to see him roam free might hender that. Im by far not the expert...but, I would definately be cautious in the begining...Cant wait to see pics

| same issue here... Chewy is 1 & 1/2 years old... We just got Sadie...10 weeks. I was very worried and thought I would keep them apart. I introduced them in our hall way where there was nothing but space. Chewy LOVED her!!!! he was very gentle and sweet! She was scared but warmed up a little at a time. Chewy has all the freedom, and Sadie is watched all the time, but when she is awake she is running around and playing. Chewy gets into this thing where he wants to ignore her! And that is fine. But we pay tons of attention to Chewy all the time. Extra treats and tons of praise when ever he is being good. He is gentle with her.... I am amazed at how much he loves her. they are both sleeping on my bed right now a few inches from each other...let your dog try to be with the puppy and always be right there.... But unless there is a problem I would not seperate. Good luck and congrats!

| I gave Gracie and Holly separate ex-pens, crates, toys, food etc, and put the pens next to each other. I did not force Holly on Gracie. I just let them have supervised get acquainted sessions, short at first. Now, they are getting along really well and it has only been a week. They need time to establish who is going to be alpha (ideally that should be you). In the meantime, give the first one lots of extra attention, feed the first one first, give loves to the first one first etc. All should go OK.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | A dog-trainer friend had me introduce my new adult Lab to my Yorkies in a neutral setting. She said the Yorkies were less likely to be territorial if they met away from their home turf. She controlled the Yorkie leashes while I walked up with the Lab on another leash. After walking together 10 steps away or so, we gradually moved closer and let them sniff each other. Then we proceeded on a short walk together. It really seemed to help. The trainer did say, however, that if there's any sign of aggression that they shouldn't be left together while unattended. Fortunately, that wasn't the case for us.

| Thanks so much for the advice! I've had KaCee home for 3 days now and she and my other dog are getting along great. The first couple of days, A.J didn't want anything to do with her but she was eager at the first sight of him! I didn't force her on A.J and finally today, I caught him laying beside her ex-pen. I'm keeping a close eye on A.J but so far he has been very gentle with her. |

Donating Yorkie Yakker | me 2 I have had the same situation. Gabby has been here a month. When we brought her home- Skippy drooled for the first 2-3 days, Then followed her around constantly. Now- still follows but when he's tired he leaves her alone. Wish I would have seen this a few weeks ago. |
