A dog-trainer friend had me introduce my new adult Lab to my Yorkies in a neutral setting. She said the Yorkies were less likely to be territorial if they met away from their home turf.

She controlled the Yorkie leashes while I walked up with the Lab on another leash. After walking together 10 steps away or so, we gradually moved closer and let them sniff each other. Then we proceeded on a short walk together. It really seemed to help.

The trainer did say, however, that if there's any sign of aggression that they shouldn't be left together while unattended. Fortunately, that wasn't the case for us.
