| Tired of the scams!! I want to get a Yorkie for my daughter's birthday but it seems like the only people I find are in some foreign country and want me to send them a bunch of money for a puppy that probably doesn't even exist. I live in Vancouver, WA but I am willing to travel pretty much any where in Washington or Oregon to find the right puppy for my little girl. Please help!! |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | There are many good breders up and down the Pacific coastline. Is this the only way you are looking for a puppy here on YT? Contact the YTCA for breeders for a Yorkie. I have two Biewer girls looking for homes. Contact me at dee@houseofwags.com if you are interested. |

| Hi. I think I posted on another thread of yours, but just in case I'm mistaken... I agree, please check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's website, ytca.org. They are a very reputable breeders' association. They have a breeder referral section on their web site to help people find good breeders in their area. From your post, you sound like you've run across scammers. To help you weed them out, a good breeder will not place a dog before at least 12 wks of age. There is no such thing as a "teacup". Make sure they have a health guarantee for a reasonable period of time. Good breeders sell pets on a "limited registration". They will also want to meet you or somehow interview you to make sure their pups will be cared for. I wish you well in your search! |

| If you are looking for a cheap puppy, you will get scammed or end up buying from a poor quality breeder in it to sell whatever they can for whatever they can get. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America has very good show breeders and if they don't have anything available at this time, they might know someone who does. Many are located in Seattle area and know the Oregon breeders as well. YOu can expect to pay about $1500 for a puppy. Perhaps less for an older one, sometimes a male might be a little less. They will interview you or should and will ensure you are the right home for their puppy. You cannot expect anything under 12 weeks of age, often a bit older. |

| I should add, a show breeder will not be selling you a show dog. They will be selling you a nice quality puppy that they know is not quite what they want for the show rings. Often they do not want to keep a male so will let that one go for pet. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree with the others, check out the YTCA referral list, I will be forever thankful to the people at YorkieTalk who recommended the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. Before I found YorkieTalk, I responded to a few newspaper ads, and heard back from a missionary in Africa, I’m so naïve, I really believed it at the time! I always recommend going for a home visit, and getting to know the breeder. Please support breeders who do health testing, and understand the importance of breeding healthy dogs. I don't know how old your daughter is, but remember the Yorkshire Terrier is first of all, a terrier, and they aren't a purse puppy; they need lots of training and patience, and they require quite a commitment. Here are some of the YTCA breeders from Washington. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club
