| Paper or Plastic? Okay, So which do you prefer for wrapping coats? Paper or plastic? And what are the pro's and con's of each. I am wrapping every 3 days and just got in plastic wraps and I wondered what most people like and why. Also do you use oil with the plastic? Just curious.

I use plastic on thicker coated male dogs. Males for obvious reasons. If I have a dog with a silkier thinner coat I find that silk wraps stay in better. But, I do use the paper/silk wraps on facial furnishings changing them out every day. I usually check the neck area wraps daily. What I have found is using a wrapping jacket has really helped in the daily checking of wraps, usually can go 5 to 6 days. When I take the jacket off the wraps look like they were just put up. The plastic wraps are more economical......they can be washed over and over.

| Well....Wrapping a coat is done primarily when you plan to show your yorkie in the ring. I have 5 yorkies however I only wrap the coats on the males that I hope to show. It is very time consuming and takes total commitment. Even when I'm tired or sick, wrapping the coat every few days is very important to prevent matting. I change the top knot every single day. The work on thier coat is rewarding when I see them with it down and groomed. My girls are beautiful and have long coats but it breaks around the face from chewing and eating. The rest of the coat also breaks some however they are still beautiful and I adore them all.

| I always use the paper/silk wraps, since this is what I have used for a long time. I hate to change anything if it is working well. On my boys, I just place the wrap up higher and seems to do the trick as not to get wet. Wraping jackets are great for the ones that rub. But I found that they must be checked daily. You can get breakage on the top of the back if the dog rolls over and rubs. As long as you check daily - they work great! |

I had a problem with wrapping jackets before. But, Kirstena's jackets are marvelous.......You take them off and a wrap is just like you left it.... I was taught on the paper/silk wraps too......but, there is an upside to plastic wraps.....the economics of it. I dump them in a mesh back and throw them in the machine.......that and it keeps the coaT cleaner.

| Thanks Mary! They look great - love the silk design of the fabric. How do the seams around the top part of the legs do? The ones I have are all one piece - no seams at all. I tried to make some myself and they are a real pain in the "you know what" to make. Too small for sewing on the machine I have. My hat is off to you Kristen for such a nice job on these. |

They are wonderful and they are custom fit. This is Kristena's design and she has a seamstress producing them for her.

| Well I have used the paper wraps (the one that are for donuts and such) and I have the plastic now which are a bit clumbsy to use. I just started using them so it will take a while to get use to using them. I have some very small paper wraps for around the face and I'm trying to get use to them. The boys are not fans of having the face wrapped so I'm struggling some with them. I have a wrapping jacket that I got from Kristena and it does help but my older boy Reve is a Houdini and can get out of it in one night. One thing I'm curious about is the silk wraps. I haven't heard of using silk wraps. Do you make them yourself? I make satin belly bands for the boys, which help keep the wrapping jacket on my Houdini boy...I sew and can make some things for my babies as long as it is not really difficult. I would love to know more about the silk wraps. One of my biggest issues is keep the face dry around the mouth. I have a problem keeping the the muzzle and furnishing from getting wet. I tried a water bottle that he licks to get water out and he wouldn't try it. Thanks for the help.

I make my own belly bands too. Them getting their beards wet is why you use paper/silk wraps for wrapping the face, less bacteria, but those have to be changed daily.

| I use paper wraps. I buy deli-wraps from the restraunt supply store. I know several old timers still use these too. They are allready cut to a great size and pop out like tissue paper. You have to make sure to get the ones without wax. Some dogs will chew on wraps and I don't worry if they get a hold of paper, but it concerns me that if they chewed on plastic it could get caught in the throat. I think that each person really finds what works best for them. I know one exibitor that folds the paper and plastic together and uses them both. |

| Thanks everyone for the advice. I am going to try the plastic and see how they work. I may try the silk also. I really want my boys as comfortable as possible. So I'll try it all and see what seems to work best for them. I know they don't like the oil. Do you use oil when you wrap them in silk? So much to learn!!!!

| I use the deli wraps! I've used the plastic, deli wraps with the plastic and I always go back to the deli wraps....I've never had a problem with the deli wraps on boys or girls, heavy coat or fine silk coat with the deli wraps. As much as I have to wrap the deli wraps work fine and it's not as costly. Again, it's all in what you personally want to use. Donna |
