I don't get it. Since you are new to dog show world, you can't figure out that this would be the wrong thing to do to post something on a public forum that someone emailed personally to you? You need to think about that and let common sense prevail, not to mention common courtesy. The author of that email has every right to be disgusted and write you off and even talk bad about YOU and be totally right to do so.

| ![]() Well, You're a little rough for a newbie. Lisa has a good heart and a love of the breed. That email didn't contain anything that the owner of Parquins hasn't already posted on his and others websites so I doubt he'll mind over much. Laurie is 2nd generation dog fancy and has been showing since she was 10 yrs. old. She's seen alot in that time and has been around the fence several times not just on both sides of it. She already acknowledged that she misunderstood that it was trust that was being addressed in the post.

Don't be mad at me. I'm not posting on anyone's good heart or lack thereof, merely on the post. Just because the author of that email has published his opinions in the past is no defense, either.

| ![]() I might just have to come up to Ohio some day, catch a show and see this boy of yours up close! Maybe I'll be able to talk Laurie into a road trip.

| ![]() There is a pup on your site out of Quaker and Butterfly of Padawi's. Lovely. I would walk to Ohio for a pup like that. |

No, I was never a newbie - I was born to this. My Mother bred Toy Poodles and Yorkshire Terriers. I was campaigning my own Afghan Hound before I was old enough to drive myself to the shows. A couple of months ago I decided to get another breed to show. I had a hard time finding a decent dog. When I did find one, I had to beg to get her. I know it's not easy to get started showing dogs. I really try to go out of my way to help people find a dog and learn to show. There are people that are not nice to new exhibitors and there are breeders that will sell you a pet and call it a show dog. If you are treated rudely - politely say goodbye and keep looking for someone that will help. Notice I said to politely say goodbye. You are going to be in the show ring with these people. It is not wise to burn bridges.

| ![]() Well I think it would be great to have you all come up to Ohio for a show. My sister may be moving to N.C. so we may swing down that way for a show or two. I adore the pairing between Kiki (Butterfly of Padawi's) and Quaker, they have 2 5 week old girls right now, one is a spitting image of Alex at the same age. ![]()

My boy is 2 points from finishing and then I won't have a class dog to show until I have a litter of pups. Are you keeping both girls? I came to the Akron area last year for a UKC show. It was at a fairgrounds out in the country. It was a beautiful area and the people were so nice. I would like to do this show again.

| ![]() I know this probably isnt the most opportune time to chime in but all this talk about the struggles of being new in the show world has struck a personal chord. This could probably use its own thread but we'll run with this one for now. Yes, I can agree with you that starting out isnt easy. I am in the same boat. There is SOOOO much to learn and the information is not easily accessible. The majority of the people I show with are not mean--actually they are quite the opposite. Almost everyone is VERY friendly--if not too friendly at times. However, what irks me being a new person to the ring is the cattiness that goes on. I am sure that this is not an unique situation to my location. The vast majority of the show people I have come across are so nice to each others faces but the minute they think no ones listening they rip each other apart their derogatory comments. There are no perfect people nor are there perfect dogs but this behavior is absolutely uncalled for and quite frankly inappropriate. I just feel like you cannot get the advice without getting sucked in to the drama. When given the choice, I will gladly forgo the advice. This is why I would rather post my questions here than to ask the people I show with. Maybe it seems like I am just ranting but I believe there is a very good message in what I am trying to convey. Being a person who has taken up showing as a hobby in addition to the 60+ hours a week I work and regular volunteer work I do, I really don't need the drama. I always feel guarded every time I show to the point where my hobby is quickly becoming a rather undesirable activity. I really hope this will serve as a reality check for all of us, regardless of geographic location. We all need to take a good look at the message our behavior and words are sending and verify that it holds consistent with our own personal values. |

| ![]() It is really that unusually for a group of exhibitors to genuinely like and respect each other? In this area, I think we do. Everyone is cordial. We help each other and always clap for and congratulate the winners. I just don't see a lot of gossip and cattiness. Tammie, you haven't been showing with us that long - what do you think? |
