I know this probably isnt the most opportune time to chime in but all this talk about the struggles of being new in the show world has struck a personal chord. This could probably use its own thread but we'll run with this one for now.

Yes, I can agree with you that starting out isnt easy. I am in the same boat. There is SOOOO much to learn and the information is not easily accessible.

The majority of the people I show with are not mean--actually they are quite the opposite. Almost everyone is VERY friendly--if not too friendly at times. However, what irks me being a new person to the ring is the cattiness that goes on.

I am sure that this is not an unique situation to my location. The vast majority of the show people I have come across are so nice to each others faces but the minute they think no ones listening they rip each other apart their derogatory comments. There are no perfect people nor are there perfect dogs but this behavior is absolutely uncalled for and quite frankly inappropriate.

I just feel like you cannot get the advice without getting sucked in to the drama. When given the choice, I will gladly forgo the advice. This is why I would rather post my questions here than to ask the people I show with.

Maybe it seems like I am just ranting but I believe there is a very good message in what I am trying to convey. Being a person who has taken up showing as a hobby in addition to the 60+ hours a week I work and regular volunteer work I do, I really don't need the drama. I always feel guarded every time I show to the point where my hobby is quickly becoming a rather undesirable activity.

I really hope this will serve as a reality check for all of us, regardless of geographic location. We all need to take a good look at the message our behavior and words are sending and verify that it holds consistent with our own personal values.
