| Help, need advice! I joined this forum to get some advice...based on my sad heart, I think I know what the advice will be. In August, we bought a Black Yorkie Poo named Molly. She was a silly, destructive, high-maintainance, but totally lovable dog. I have four kids. I teach. My husband works. We are active, active, active. Because of the fact that we are never home, I felt it wasn't fair to the dog to spend so many hours by herself. We talked and talked and decided to give the dog to a home that had people there 24 hours a day. However, my heart is breaking. My daughter's heart is breaking. Did we do the right thing? Is it fair to Molly to spend hours by herself? Maybe we made the right choice and it will just be hard for a while. Or maybe we need to get her back and because we all love her so much, she will fall into routine and be fine. I just don't know. Please share your thoughts. |

| The greatest love you can have for a dog is putting it's own needs above your own. Each dog has thier own personality, some may be ok with owners gone all day and some are not, sounds like your pup was one of the ones that loves thier people around 24/7. I know it is sad for you to give up your pet but it sounds like she might be happier and that should make you happy too. I think you did the right thing. |

| First I am so very sorry your heart is hurting what a tough decision this must have been for you, but it sounds like despite your heartache you know you did the right thing for your pup. Some yorkies are just not dogs to be left for extended periods of time. So as a responsible person you did right by your fur kiddo!! Hugs to you and know there are those out there that understand.

I do think pet dogs need as much human interaction as they can reasonably get. I started out by setting a 5-hour limit of alone time and kept that up for 5 years. At the least, I'd come home from work at lunchtime to feed them. Now, I occasionally push it to 8 hours for my adult dogs. I make it up to them by making the time we spend together quality time with walks, training and games. That's really key IMO. I don't want them sleeping all night, sleeping all day, then sleeping when I'm at home.

| I am so sorry you are sad. I do admire you for the love you had for your little guy. Some dogs are great by themselves while owners work..(my lasa was happiest when he was the one and only guy in the house)...with some research and advise from dog lovers you could find that breed. Also, I have read many places and belive that you should have more than one pet. It does not mean two yorkies, but maybe a cat - dog or I have even read a hamster (what do you think?). Saying that.. we have had a several pets over the past ten years, dog with cats, dogs with dog, more dogs --sad to say lost cats, and so on. It has worked out well and the love we get from the pets is so much and more. Also, the lessons my children have learned from having pets is even more. I wish you luck

| You made a decision based upon what was best for Molly. Stick with it and don't try to get her back. |

| Sometimes it hurts to make the right decisions for those we love. It's called being a parent and you did the right thing for your little one. Give yourself a pat on the back for recognizing your baby needed more than you were able to give her and you were able to make her happy by putting her in another home. It hurts now but you set a very good example for your daughter. Teresa |

| I see very busy families like yours do a great job with their small dogs simply by taking the dog with them everywhere possible, and on days that school and work keeps them away from the dog for too long, they have pet sitters and pet walkers. I don't think you were really ready for another commitment right now, but maybe some day when things settle down you will be.

It probably won't be a good idea to try to get Molly back. Going back and forth won't do her any good. In the future, you can try again, and try to incorporate a pup into your busy lifestyle. You'll be surprised just how much they enjoy it.

| How would the people feel that you gave the dog to? Would they be willing to give the dog back?
