| Wanted: Yorkie baby/young/adult (not senior) in California Title is describes most of it. I am seeking to add a new member into our family. My daughter is almost 8 years old and we had recently lost our family cat of 18 years. It didn't take long for us to say we need more and can give more of ourselves to another animal. Pretty good guarantee someone will be with the dog 24/7 as I have three roommates that are regulars two are senior citizens and look forward to giving a dog a good scratch and have expressed the need to have companionship as well. I have told the neighbors of our plans as our kids play together and they are raving it is a great idea and welcome the dog into their home as well. My daughter and I generally have a consistent schedule we both go to school, homework, dinner. I school online getting my BA in Psychology and then JD in Law. My daughter has her Brownie meetings once a month and we get out and do things as a family does. With that-- we live in the SOCAL area and it is common to have a pet wearing all the fine things seen in the local grocery. We would be able to do that as well and can bring the dog with us for our trips and errands. My wish list is this- mellow, kid friendly, not a hyper barking type, trainable, hopefully house trained, likes the car and short walks and other animals. Finally, LOTS OF LOVE and prepared to be doted on by two loving girls! If you know of an adoptable HEALTHY Yorkie (no mix please) that is available for a reasonable adoption fee please contact me. I have looked around all the shelters and always seem to miss it. Thank you for looking! |

| Thanks! Thank you I will keep an eye out. I have been using adopt a pet and a few other sites. Seems as soon as the dog comes in by the next day the wait list is full! |

| Good luck in your search! There are a lot of yorkies who need homes in shelters, on petfinder and craigslist.

| I would strongly encourage you to research the breed prior to obtaining one if you have not already. Your list of things that you are looking for in a yorkie are very concerning to me. Yorkies are wonderful pups, but please be aware that they are terriers. They also are very fragile. They are not known to do well with children, although it can work if the parents teach their children not to carry them and not to be too active around them. Yorkies often are turned into rescues because they were dropped by children and injured and the family could not afford the surgery; or they end up nippy because of all of the activity in the home. That is very common. The other two things I noted: you would prefer housebroken and yorkies are notoriously difficult to housebreak. You also don't want a hyper barking type.....yorkies are very yappy! Just want you to really think this through. Some links that might help you: Yorkshire Terrier information and pictures, Yorkshire Terriers, Yorkie, Yorkies Yorkshire Terriers: What's Good About 'Em? What's Bad About 'Em? Good luck in your search for a family pet!

| Yorkie Adoption Concerns I understand your concerns and they are valid. I have considered the fragility of a small Yorkie and am also concerned about the same thing. I am specifically not looking to adopt a puppy or senior dog as they are the most fragile and am not looking for a XXS toy size. Fortunately, my daughter is bright and it will be fully explained about how easy it is to break a limb. I have spoken with a couple of Yorkie owners in the area and have been told that they can be trained to not be a barker and that there are a equal amount that are not hyper to the ones that are. That is a positive and as far as accidents I have stock in the steam cleaning companies from the various hair balls and stuff a cat does. Shedding, barfing, pooping, peeing have done that with the cat and just about all that with my daughter as well. You just take it all in stride. Personally, I am fond of the Yorkie breed and am hoping to find one 10 lbs and above so it is more suitable to the lifestyle we have. It is really just me and my daughter the roommates are either in their room or out doing their thing so we don't have a share of house situation. Actually all day you can literally hear a pin drop in my house which makes it a nice calm place to be. I hope that I have addressed some of your concerns and I am able to guarantee that this dog will not be neglected or unloved. |

| That's great that you have researched! I would suggest you do a search on Petfinder. Most rescues list their pups on there and you can search by zip code so that you can first find the ones closest to you. Welcome to YT

| Recommendations needed. I have spoken to the lady in Moreno Valley about her dog. She said it is healthy and has given the dog shots herself. Should I look for any health guarantees or no expect it since the dog is being given away? I guess it would be smart to make an appointment for a visit to the vet right away? Any thoughts? |

| Well she said the dog just had puppies and so that means she is not fixed. The dog is a mix between a silky and maltese. I really want a strait yorkie brown & black. I am not buying she is offering the dog for free. She said she has 4 other dogs and she is keeping them. I think for me I will have to pass on this dog. I do have the picture and the number is posted amongst the posts if anyone is interested. |

Obtaining a dog from the classifieds is really not a great idea. Sometimes people get lucky, but there are so many scams out there. Just be very careful.
