| Karla I would think that something like Composure or in Canada it is called Bio calm would help settle her down and help with focus. In a large push Prozac but she have to be unmanagable at all. Again ask vet. I love to do chicken camp but I like you would be sick. Happy to see you are dedicated and happy she will stay put and just saw some one mention rescue and got worried. Lets keep in touch and see how it goes with the guys in Tacoma. I am not going to stick my nose in so that you can focus on one set of info coming in at one time. If for some reason I am out there again showing which I maybe I will try and fit in a visit and get a better feel. Would suggest you get a hold of Truid rugrass book On Talking terms with dogs and see if learning calming sognals you can use to tell her in her own language will help...not sure the name is right but hte title is. WE DO NOT EUTHANIZE pups for aggression issues!!! Please do not say that ALL rescues do that. That is untrue! There are some that do and I had told Karla that...and suggested to her that she ask the rescues she contacted about their policies on euthanasia. We had another pupster that had problems much like Mindy and we invested in her with a behaviorist that did not come cheap. We then worked with her..and ended up finding the perfect home for her where she is living a wonderful life! Just want you to be fully aware that all rescues do NOT euthanize pups with issues.

While you are one rescue you can not take in every single rescue with aggression concerns that there is and some of these guys like my girl is not fixable they are only manageable and in a rescue they would get put down unless they landed in say best friends. Then you take a dog and place it in the home and it has a bite history and it is know they may not get insurance and yes it is too getting that bad. JL

| I know that many rescues will do that...my point is that you said ALL..and it is not all. My question to you.... What is the difference here? If Karla keeps her and does not euthanize her and then places her and she bites...is she not liable? What is the difference? There is none.

I am far to concerned with helping the dog, so if you have anything that will aid in helping this dog feel better in the world good toss it in cause the little one needs all help she can get and has that right. JL

I have tossed in ideas from day one. Fresh out of them. Hope you succeed .. she definitely needs something. Just thought that since you seem to really care, you might really want to be aware that there is a rescue that does try to help these special babies. Carry on..and best of luck to Karla and Mindy.

So she knows Mindy needs as much help as possible and has been very helpful. But her main issue with what you said is that please do not lump all rescues together by stating all rescues put these dogs to sleep. I also know that they don't, and that is the reason they do rescue, to save them from being put down. Of course I can say I know several that are rotten rescues, but again, not all. | |

| Anyhow back to Mindy.... We have had no issues with her other then the barking and sometimes growling at a couple of the dogs who bug her.. So I guess right now we are handling her other issues by avoidance. I am a homebody.. I don't have many people over and so maybe that is why she does so well here?? Verses what happened with the lady I placed her with who worked full-time and then took her out to that great big scary world. I have no doubt she was not properly socialized when she was a pups. then went into a home where again she had no socialization..Except with whoever was mean to her, and probably her mistress was her only solid person. Then she was put with us. And it was comfortable because I am a homebody with very few people coming in, and the ones who do, are male friends of hubby and son..LOL So again, not enough outside socialization, and within her comfort zone of her whole life. I know I did that with my first yorkie, Kizzie and she is afraid of people who come over and barks like mad and runs away. My mistake. and one which I don't want to ever make again and moving Mindy again I think would just be cruel. BUT...I will be doing something to help her and i will get her out more. And as my back can handle it I will start walking all of my dogs, even if it is only a block. I know Hanna my 9 year old cocker absolutely LOVES our short walk to the mail box every day. She trots right near me and really loves going out. I always thought just having that huge back yard to run and play in was enough. I realize now it isn't. I can see Hanna seems more cheerful after we come back from the mail box I truly believe dogs pick their favorite people, they have a comfort zone just like us. And because of my life style I believe she has picked us and while maybe dogs do things on purpose I know they learn if they do this, then that will happen.. Both times re-homed by me she got to come back. Only she knows what she did to get send back. It could of been anything. I love Mindy so if that is what she wants, to be here, then hell, I see no reason for her not to.. Well except the over the limit thing but they don't check so i am not going to concern myself with that right now. I just looked and I had NO idea this thread is over 200 posts..holy cow..Mindy should be proud to be so popular..LOL |

| Avoidance is better called good management and is a good part of rehab as it does not allow the dog to practice and ingrain more the bad habits. SO GOOD JOB! So you know if you want to make changes the brain in a dog is not hard wired and still very changeable up to 3 years for most dogs. Mine we got luck and she changed up into the later years but think it is more to do with use just re forcing and giving her down time to absorb... that is my theory not science based. I glad Mindy is going to stay where she is and have great life. JL
