| Protect them Don't take it for granted that you can leave your little ones out alone if your yard is fenced. We moved recently to a gated community so we can't have fences but our Brady is potty trained indoors so he only goes out when we take him for a walk on a leash. Where we used to live we had a fence but when we let him out to run around the yard we always stayed there.

| I understand this is an old post but wanted to share a recent experience. Our beloved Piper was stolen from our yard (fenced). The people who had her kept her 5 days before calling us! They actually had the nerve to say they saw the jeweled collar and tags (yes tags with name and phone on them) so knew she was loved. She was so covered in burrs that it took my daughter and I an hour to get them out. Some of them were embedded in her skin, so we had to use a metal comb to get them far enough from her head to cut out Her beautiful full coat is going to have to be shaved She's lost so much weight we can feel her bones! To top it all off the people admitted getting her from our yard! They didn't admit to taking her from the fence, so maybe she escaped but that doesn't explain why they didn't contact us. I feel in my heart that the only reason we got her back was it was to much work to get her cleaned up and they couldn't take her to a vet or groomer without questions and groomers around her can't touch them without shot records. I'm still so mad that I'm shaking as I write this! |

| Has anyone ever used a tracking device with their Yorkie? I've been looking online but everything seems so big. |

| No, I haven't used a tracking device. Someone posted on here once about some that weren't so big I think. Both of mine are microchipped but that doesn't help any if they aren't scanned. You are so fortunate to get your dog back. Did you ask them why it took so long for them to contact you? Usually the first thing that someone (with intent to return a dog) does is look for a tag with contact info. I'm sorry that it had to happen, but again thank goodness that you got Piper back.

I don't think they intended to return her but couldn't take her to the vet or groomer without shot records. I'd also plastered the area with missing dog reports and she was microchipped. I was so mad I was shaking so my husband drove the 15 miles to pick her up. It didn't even sink in at first that they'd had her without calling us, I think because we were so happy to get her back. It wasn't until I'd hung up the phone that it dawned on me the circumstances. | |

| Thank God you got her back and she is safe at home with her Mommy. Some people I just do not understand. Two years ago I found a Yorkie, male, and there was no tag no way to find an owner so I kept him. I had him three days when we went to the grocery store and seen a flyer of him. I contacted the owner right away. She wanted to pay me for giving him back and I told her I would not take her money but that if she ever found someones dog that she would also return it. She was a very nice lady and very happy to have her baby back. |

That said, I would still want some comeuppance for the horrid people who stole her! I can't believe they even admitted taking her from your yard without checking with you! That alone should get them in some trouble. But since you have her back, I doubt you can get the police to do anything. I would probably call them back and say -- Why did you not call us for 5 DAYS? Why did you take her from our yard without knocking on the door or checking to see if she belonged there? Were you planning on keeping her? Check your state, some places allow you to record a phone conversation with one party's permission. If you could get them to admit they planned to keep her, maybe the police would lay an order to appear and at least get them fined in court. Some states don't allow recording unless both parties are agreeable though so check first.

| Wow, that is so scary that Piper was "taken" from your own yard. Yes, this sounds like these people intentionally took Piper. I agree about contacting the local police to fill out a report on these people. If they have done this once, they will do it again and again. And sad to say, those pups may never be reunited with there rightful owners once stolen. I am glad I don't have a fenced in yard and HAVE TO walk both dogs in our yard on their leashes. We live in a very nice neighborhood that if someone is desperate, they may steal dogs or anything else that they could sell. Atleast by having my dogs on a leash and must stay outside with them, they won't be stolen from us. I am so happy to hear you have Piper back home with you. |

| Wow that is an awful experience! I'm so glad your baby is home and I hope those people are somehow punished for their actions. I would be sooooo angry.
