She was so covered in burrs that it took my daughter and I an hour to get them out. Some of them were embedded in her skin, so we had to use a metal comb to get them far enough from her head to cut out Her beautiful full coat is going to have to be shaved She's lost so much weight we can feel her bones! To top it all off the people admitted getting her from our yard! They didn't admit to taking her from the fence, so maybe she escaped but that doesn't explain why they didn't contact us. I feel in my heart that the only reason we got her back was it was to much work to get her cleaned up and they couldn't take her to a vet or groomer without questions and groomers around her can't touch them without shot records. I'm still so mad that I'm shaking as I write this!
I can imagine how angry this has made you but also how relieved you are to get her back (even though in bad shape). The hair will grow back and she will regain her weight and the important thing is you have your baby back!

That said, I would still want some comeuppance for the horrid people who stole her! I can't believe they even admitted taking her from your yard without checking with you! That alone should get them in some trouble. But since you have her back, I doubt you can get the police to do anything. I would probably call them back and say -- Why did you not call us for 5 DAYS? Why did you take her from our yard without knocking on the door or checking to see if she belonged there? Were you planning on keeping her? Check your state, some places allow you to record a phone conversation with one party's permission. If you could get them to admit they planned to keep her, maybe the police would lay an order to appear and at least get them fined in court. Some states don't allow recording unless both parties are agreeable though so check first.
