| OMG.. bad teeth coming out OH NO! Guys I am freaking out!! I just looked into Cositas teeth and her two meat (carnival) baby teeth have not falling out and the permanents are almost half way right behind them. I don't know how this happened. I am constantly checking her teeth and I never saw it coming. She does not have appointment till the 29.. Do you think it will too late to be removed? meaning once the baby teeth are removed do you think the permanent teeth will come to the right position? Probably she will have a bad bite huh? What problems happen when they have bad bite? Has this happened to someone? I am so worried. I will call in tomorrow and see if I can get her in the Vet office sooner! thanks for any input! -R |

| oh I just found this info: http://members.aol.com/CYorkie/PuppyTeeth.html These are 2 paragraphs for those that are interested: When I see double canines, I give them a chance to come all the way in. If the puppy canines do not loosen than I pull. Some canines come in at the exact spot of the puppy canines. Most adult canines come in next to the puppy canines. The ones you need to watch are the adult canines that come in either behind or in front of the puppy canines. If the adult canines don’t come in quickly, it is most important to get the puppy canines pulled right awasy. Otherwise, the adult canines will grow either too far forward or too far behind. One of my Yorkie’s puppy canines was pulled at 6 months, because the adult canines were coming in behind. I did not have my vet pull any incisors, because I wasn’t positvie if they were puppy or adult teeth and there was only one set. At 11 months there was double incisors on each side of the lower canines which had to be pulled and at 13 months there was double incisors on each side of the upper canines that had to be pulled. This was very unusual but demonstrates that you need to watch the mouth. Seems that I am still on time. Any one with this same experience. Did they get better. This teaches me to be more careful with her teeth. -R |

| Yes, we need to constantly check their teeth and brush them for our Yorkies, so that they will have good teeth in their old age! It sounds like your baby is still okay at this point Raiza, you can call your vet and see what they say as well. |

| Raiza, Toto didn't have her baby teeth pulled until she was 8 months ... she was spayed at the same time. Our Dr. Lucy doesn't like to sedate them if it isn't absolutely necessary. She tries to do all "maintenance" during one "sleep" if possible! It was really funny a couple of months later when she was giving her an exam and she started laughing and said she had missed one baby tooth! Her mouth looked fine so we were going to wait until her December "boosters" but she decided it would be better to go ahead and do it in October. She did great ... Dr. Lucy barely sedated her ... and everything was fine! Now those little sharp teeth are all just perfect!! We always make sure that she has lots of "chew" toys on hand all the time ... she hides them ... loses them or sometimes I swear she just wants new toys!!! But her teeth have always checked out fine!

| Raiza, You can wait untill Cosita is 1 year old, a lot of times, the puppy tooth sometimes falls off when the permanent tooth comes out. Mojo's last puppy tooth came out a couple weeks before turning 1 yr old, you just have to be careful with the oral higiene, left over of foods can stay between the teeth and if not cleaned can cause gum infections. |

| Thanks guys for all your responses. I definitely feel much better. I was really freaking out yesterday. Yea, my Vet doesn't like to sedate too much, that is why I waited to do the teeth until she was going to be spayed. Since this is not an emergency (like I thought last night) I will keep her appointment on the 29 and not move it closer. Well, I will try to move it closer but I really doubt there will be an open spot. So on that day she is going to have an over whole: --I am sure vet will remove those two canine teeth (who knows what other teeth) --She has bad breath, will see what he says about it. I brush her teeth tho.. but I don't think I do it quite well since she fights it --She will get spayed --Plug/clip (don't know the spell) her hair inside her ears --Also wants him to check that her skin on her belly is pealing off. It just looks like dry skin (just on her belly) Sounds like a tune up huh? Bettyanne, you said you waited 8 months for spayed and teeth. Q, Did Toto had the same canine teeth coming behind her baby canine teeth? Baby, You said we could wait up to a year, but seems like your puppy's canine teeth came one just prior to a year. Mine seem to be already half way out right behind the baby teeth. Maybe is time to have those removed. And the baby canine teeth seem hard as a rock.. don't know if they will fall out by itself. oh no sngglz, poor doggy with the tongue out like that... that's not good. fasteddie, how do you brush Yoda's teeth? I use the one that you stick in your finger and then clean her teeth. But it is hard for me to see where I scratch it since she does not like to open her mouth for that. Hey, have you found a baby teeth laying around. I have found 3 already. I will put it in her photo album. --R Oh before I forget, how long do they take to recover after being spayed or knurled (sorry don't know how to spell surgery for boys? |

| Hi Raiza, Mojo was neutered when he was 10 months old, the recovery time is about 7 days for males since it is a much simpler (and external) surgery, but i have to say it only took Mojo a few hours to be back in his old self...hehehe Since Mojo had lost all but 1 of his puppy teeth before 10 months, the vet decided to wait...also the breeder i bought him from told me that mojo's parents lost their teeth by itself, so i opted for waiting and it paid off. About the skin on cosita's belly, make sure the vet takes a good look at it, i donnou where you live but here in miami because of the humidity is very easy for our yorkies to catch a skin fungus...so it's always good to double check it. Good luck with her surgery! Last edited by Babbie; 11-16-2004 at 01:32 PM. |

| Hello Babbie, Wow 7 days since he was a boy!! So that means the recovery time for Cosita will be longer since she is a girl. Yea I can imagine Mojo being up to speed in few hours. These Yorkies have such a nice spirit. I live in California. It is actually dry here. The skin on her belly looks dry and pealing off. Doesn't look like she has any rash. Yes, I will for sure have the vet check on that. Poor thing she is going in for so many things!!! with her teeth out and surgery she probably will need lots of care. P.S. I will give you guys an update how she does after surgery. -r |

| Raiza, Toto's permanent teeth were all in ... she looked so funny with all those teeth!! She did shed a few of the small teeth before her surgery [they kinda looked like little horseshoes] and I saved the ones I found for her baby book! She did great with her surgery! Actually, she did better that I!! I held her for two days straight ... she wouldn't eat much ... just slept and wanted down for the potty and to drink! The vet cautioned us about not letting her jump for a few days ... other than that the only other thing she cautioned us about was her little incision. Her stitches had to stay in for 10 days. After about three or four days she was back to her old self ... we couldn't slow her down!! I made sure that there were always pillows in front of the sofa and any place she normally tried to jump up and just gave her a boost if I saw her in time! Cosita will probably do much better than her Mom!! Please keep us updated and try not to worry too much! [That's easy for me to say, since I have that dreaded day behind me!!] And, of course, we're all here for you!!

| Hi Bettyeanne, thanks so much for your support. I think you guys are awesome! I will need to watch her closely.. she is a jumper. I many times try to catch her so she doesn't do it, but it is impossible to do that 100%. The idea of the pillows around the sofa is great. Will do that. Q, how do you make the stitches stay there for 10 days? Wouldn't she wanna pick on it? I am sure it becomes itchy once it is healing. The thing I am concerned the most is her coming out ok from the anesthesia -R |

| Thanks, Raiza! Toto never even tried to lick her stitches, guess we were lucky! I know I read somewhere what some members did for that problem, but I can't remember how they handled it. The anesthesia was my biggest concern, however, we trusted Dr. Lucy completely! She discussed this among lots of other things involved with these babies when we first interviewed with her. Just make sure your vet is knowledgable about that sort of thing ... the little ones don't need as much as larger dogs. Just try not to worry!

| We brush Yoda's teeth with a very small toothbrush, and yes, he hates it for the most part. I just sort of open his mouth for him and stick the toothbrush in and brush away. The more you do it, the more they will get used to it. |
