No Longer a Member | How many times a day do you feed your =puppies= Chloe is five months old. I've been feeding her 3 times a day, at 8a, 1p, and 6p every day. Lately, feeding has been a battle that she is winning. She does not want to eat, and she is eating very irregularly. I'm wondering if now is the time to switch her to only 2 times a day. Who feeds only twice a day, and what times do you feed? Thanks, |

| Tucker is 6 months old at the end of this month and I am working on transitioning him to two meals a day instead of three - 5:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. He used to get a full lunch, but now I figure out his needs for the day and pull just a little bit aside for a snack at lunch. I will usually tuck those bits of kibbles in a treat toy so he has to linger over it for awhile. Tucker loves to eat and inhales his food. I am amazed at how quickly he can polish off his meal! Tucker is not a tiny yorkie (right at 5 lbs) and has never shown any signs of low blood sugar so I'm not real worried about 2 meals. If he shows any signs of trouble, we'll go back to three. | hey... we free feed.. so her food dish is on the floor all day.. which works really well for us because layla is a very picky eater and does not eat much at all.. so i know that if i were to feed her at certain times she woudlnt' eat the food... she will pick at it all day... you might want to try that too |

| I hear of so many yorkies that are just like Chloe. With Tucker I worry that he will have a heart attack or something while waiting for me to serve him - he literally goes bonkers when he hears the feed bag. He can barely contain himself. I make him sit before I will put his dish down and in the short moment that he has to sit he is quivering in anticipation of eating. His food is gone in less than a minute. He inhales it, then gets a drink and then burps - Lovely!! I wish he would chill a bit and linger over his meals! Tucker's feed is Nutro Puppy Lamb and Rice. Julie Quote:

| I feed mine twice a day, I tried the same time in the morning and at night, but sometimes that doesn't work out all time. Usually I put his food around 6:20 in the morning and 30 minutes later the food is good. Samething at night time. Around 8pm we go for a 30 min walk or for training. Usually when my wife gets home around 3:30pm she will him a treat or a veggie. |

| hi everyone! i feed jackie o at 8ish am. at that meal she gets hills ad wet and i mix it with a small piece of boiled chicken. she gets this meal again at 6ish pm. but in between i free feed her. i leave a bowl of ukanuba small bite out for her. i stopped a full afteroon meal at 7 1/2 months. she is still on the hills ad food because it helps her mantain her hefty 1 1/2 pounds. haha. oh...also she gets a small piece of chicken after her daily brushings and walks. and sometimes she just gives me the cutest look and i cant resist! i give her another! haha. also she absolutly loves these dried chicken jerkies i get at the specialty store by my apartment. she goes crazy for them!! they are these little round things that i break in quarters. hope this all helps! chole is a cutie! |

| We've been feeding our puppy about every 4 hours since we got her. She's a very picky eater, so we've had to go thru at least a dozen different dog foods and she's never eaten very much of anything. Several times I felt she was sliding into hypoglycemia and got her started eating again by giving her Karo syrup or feeding her a few treats with honey on them. We feed her canned on schedule and leave crunchies down all day. But she hardly ever touches her crunchies and never has, hence the wet food feedings. So for weeks when she was teething, she hardly ate at all. We even cooked her dinners: liver, chicken, ground lamb, ground venison, ground bisson, ground veal. Sprinkled them with parmesan, or put Iams puppy sauce on when she stopped eating after a couple of days on one kind. Fed her uncooked baby carrots, broccoli and peas as treats as well. Now, at nearly 6 months all of a sudden she wants to eat and she's back to eating Cesars (yes, we know, it's not a healthy food, but having her eat at all is a miracle and we'll try to switch her to more healthy food once we feel she's going to keep on eating). She eats a lot right now and we are thrilled after fighting an uphill battle. Anyway, that's the long answer to your question. Four times a day at four hour intervals. We do the fourth feeding around between 9:00 and 10:00 in the evening because if we didn't she'd wake up in the morning and throw up white foamy liquid. So she had to have a late feeding to prevent that. Last edited by Sweetums; 02-27-2007 at 08:47 PM. |

| exact opposite Hi everyone.. I seem to have the exact opposite problem. My baby girl is 15 weeks old and can never get enough food! She acts like she is starving when I feed her ( 3 times a day) and she will stomp around near the feeding area looking for more food when i pick up the dish. Tonight she got the bowl out of the bowl holder and walked around with it like she wanted to let me know she is still hungry. I free fed my 1st baby b/c he wasnt such a porker but with her I feel like i have to limit food b/c she would do nothing but eat all day! How much (serving size) should i feed her of both water and dry food per serving? I dont want her to be hungry but I dont want to overfeed either.

| I found that when we were free feeding Tia (for a month or two) she wasn't really eating, and her "schedule was unpredictable (we had her in an expen at the time). Now she gets 2 meals per day (we leave her dish out until she either finishes it, or needs to be crated again), and her poop schedule is more predictable (even though she does it everywhere except for the pee pad!) |

| My two girls are 14 and 15 months old and they get breakfast at 7, a light lunch at 12 and dinner at 5. They are always ready for a meal. I think maybe if your puppy doesn't want to eat, then maybe your feeding too much at one time. Mine get 1/4 cup for breakfast and dinner and for lunch it's just about a level tablespoon of yogurt and cottage cheese mixed together. Sometimes a raw baby carrot after that. But my girls are 7 & 8 pounds. |
