| Innova, Chicken Soup, or Canidae?? hello fellow yorkie talkers! I have a question about food - actually I am hoping to find some of you folks that buy one of these foods mentioned and let me know how it is working out for you. I have been doing a TON of research online regarding what food I should be feeding my little guy (I am a new yorkie pup owner as of 2 weeks ago!). I started feeding him Science diet puppy small bites because that is what the breeder gave him and the vet said it was good. but the more research I do, the more I have learned that this may not be the best choice due to its content. According to the food grading thread on here SD got an F! And accoding to dog food analysis.com it is a 1 star dog food. So I want to change! Based on these gradings and based on user reviews in various forums, I have narrowed it down to 3 dry foods: Innova Puppy, Chicken Soup, and Canidae. All 3 are in the A +, 5 star ratings categories according to the sources I mentioned above. But how do I decide between the three!? Can anyone recommend one of these? I am trying to determine which of the 3 seem to have the best reviews - based on what the puppies like to eat (taste!) and overall health. And if there is another pet food that you think I am leaving out, let me know. I am open for anything! I just want to pick one out soon so I can start weeding my little guy onto it. thanks so much in advance! |

| I feed my dogs Innova puppy food (dry) since they came to live with me. Now they are eating EVO (Innova brand) mixed with dry Merrick grandma potpie. But when I serve it to them, I add a couple of T. of the wet merrick food (they come in various flavors) and they both love it. Both are very healthy I have been very happy and won't ever switch. I believe all the brands you mentioned are good quality dog food. It really is just a matter of preference and what your dogs would eat. I believe you can get sample packets. The petstore I get it from always hands them out so if you need samples, just PM me and I can get them for you on my next trip to the store. Hope you don't mind paying for shipping |

| I feel your pain.. who knew picking dog food could be so hard? lol. But, after reading all the product reviews on this site, I decided to contact all the food companies and ask for samples. They all contacted me back and I got most of the samples within a week. I'm still waiting for a few to come, so I haven't decided on 1 food yet. But, my picky dog like the Canidae canned chicken and rice (he eats more if i mix it with cottage cheese) and so far the only dry food I can get him to eat is Diamond Naturals Small Breed Formula. If you search it on this site, you'll see that a couple of the breeders on here feed it to their furbabies. It's also small enough that he can sit there and gobble it up. What I noticed with a lot of the other foods (like innova) the pieces are just too big. But before you go waisting money buys foods only to find your baby won't eat it, definately e-mail the companies and get samples! -Christina

| I just switched my two kiddo's to Natural Balance dog food its for all life stages puppy and adult, so when they become adults I don't have to buy th adult brand and they like it too, I switched them from Iams puppy to Natural Balance original. They love it, they pick it out of the Iams while I'm in the transition stage

Oh well, seems like he's a picky guy. I don't have a yorkie but I have a LC chihuahua and a bulldog and the chi is kinda picky but when I went to mix the Iam and NB she ate the NB and left the Iams. Now the bulldog baby she'll eat anything you throw out there you could throw a bag that might of had food in it and she'll eat it too....LOL!!!!!!! she's a NUT!!!

| I have tried all three foods you mentioned and this is what I found.... Innova: none of my dogs liked this, they didn't care for the flavor at all and wouldn't eat it. Chicken soup: it was great, all the dogs loved it and it really helped their skin and coat. Canidae: I just switched from Chicken Soup to Canidae about a week ago. The dogs love the taste and it is also suppose to be good for their skin and coat. The actually like it better than the CS because when I started switching them to Canidae, they would pick out and eat all the Canidae kibble and leave the Chicken Soup kibble alone. The only reason I switched from Chicken Soup to Canidae is because Canidae is for all life stages. I have two puppies that get puppy food, 4 get adult food and one gets Senior food. So rather than buying 3 different bags like I normally do and trying to make sure each dog eats the right food, I just buy one bag and they all eat the same food. So for my dogs, they liked the Canidae the best and didn't like Innova at all. Hope this helps you some!!

| I had the same experience listed above. I thought Innova might be the best of those 3, but my four would not eat it. They all like ChickenSoup, but then I need separate Puppy and Adult foods and they still get in each others all the time. So, now I am using Canidae for all of them. Works well for us, except for the availability. I cannot find it locally and have to order it online. We ran out and I had to substitute some Natural Balance and Merrick's -- they are not liking it.

| I was feeding Innova, because I believe it to be the best, but my furkids decided to stop eating it, plus the only feed store that carried it closed at 5:30, I get off work at 5:00 and have a 35 minute drive to get to the store. Currently am feeding Nutro Natural Choice Lamb Meal & Rice Formula Small Bites. They all like it, and it's available from PetsMart. Hopefully it's okay. Everybody seems energetic, happy with healthy coats and skin. |

| I feed Canidae. All three of the brands you listed are excellent brands. I would suggest getting samples of all three and see which one your little one likes the best and go wtih that. Yorkies are so picky and sometimes it is all about finding a food they will actually eat. Eating a slightly lower quality food is better than not eating at all. |

| I also wanted to add that my 2 turned their noses up at Innova. They liked both the Canidae and the Chicken Soup, but I decided on the Canidae bc I do not care for the ingredients in the Chicken Soup Adult formula....only the puppy formula of the Chicken Soup is up to par. |

| I feed my little boy Innova and Artemis mix. He did not like Innova very much on it's own, but mixed with Artemis, he gobbles it right up. I think that Innova is the best out there, so I really wanted to try everything I can to make him like it! |

| We started out on Science Diet as well, and like you research had made us change FOR THE BETTER. We have tried Canadae (you can got to web site and they will send 4 sample bags) and we have just tried Chicken Soup, Grayson gobbled the Chicken Soup up so fast, and I think that is what we will stay with. Good luck!!
