Well sorry to butt in but i have a question here. My puppy came with this food called Hollistic Health Extension that nobody seems to ever have heard of. I did manage to find it at my local pet shop BUT i've never heard of any other person using it. Bailey seems to like it just fine but i'm not sure of the quality. Is there anyone out there that has ever heard of it?? Also I was thinking of switching to Wellness brand, is that good brand of food??

Mike, There is a premium foods store on Clybourn, one block North from Armitage. It's called Kaiser's. They give you samples of all the foods you want. They have Innova and Canidae for sure and I believe Chicken Soup too. The sample packs are free of charge and they are sealed mini packages of the brands you mentioned. Each pack will last you a few days of feeding. I tried Innova and Canidae like that. My puppy preferred Canidae in terms of taste. She did not like Innova at all. Another brand that you might want to consider getting samples is Artemis for small puppies. She liked it too and it is supposedly even more holistic than Canidae.

| How much protein is good for puppies? Canidae all stages has 24 pct minimum and it is the only thing SAFE right now I want to feed mine with all the recalls. Thanks.

Hey guys...I've posted several threads about finding the right food for my 13 week old Sammie If this seems to relate to your puppy try Merrick (It took me almost $50 to figure it out but worth it now) He started out... 1) eating IAMS puppy dry (found out it's bad since they test on animals and the wet food is on RECALL)...threw away everything, even dry, I just won't trust it 2) Switched to Royal Canine Puppy 33. He loved the taste but boy...BAD BREATH!!! Some find that Royal Canine doesn't cause bad breath for their dog but it did for mine 3) Switched to Innova Puppy. Sammie hated it! Would only pick at it..maybe suck on it then spit it out (his area around his bowl was soo messy). This is a rich food and Sammie didn't like it too much (I think since he's on the smaller yorkie side...it was too rich for his stomach and even the little he ate, caused runny poop) 4) Switched to Canidae and he didn't like this either 5) Finally!!! I found it...Merrick Puppy with Organic Chicken!!! The kibbles are a bit bigger so now I know he actually chews instead of swallowing. It's also rated high in the dog food journal. It has dried peas and other veggies too that you can see (not mixed in with the meat). SOOO for those who are facing this same dilemma...maybe I have saved you time and money!!

hi everyone, i have been feeding my yorkie merrick canned and royal canin dry. everything is great with these foods and his poop is firm and not large, but sometimes it is a little mushy. i read about merrick foods not being the same all the time and have come across this myself. so after this recall on all these foods and the food killing our babies, i have decided to make my own food, which i did tonight ! after the help from some of these wonderful yorkie lovers and very knowledgeable people on this website , i went out today to buy the ingredients for my sammy. i will start tomorrow morning by adding a little to his royal canin kibble and wean him off of this stuff within a couple of weeks. at least now i know what he is eating. i also bought the missing link which i will add to his food everyday. a little at a time. i am so happy that i am starting this and i want to thank everyone who has responded to my questions. this website is a world full of knowledge and very thoughtful people on here. thank you once again elle57

thanks for all the feedback! I got a few samples and tried them out. Coby did not like Canidae or Innova very much, only seemed to pick at it and not eat very much. But he did well with Chicken Soup. I think I will order a bag! Thanks again!
