| Charlie won't eat Hi, I'm new here and need some info. My dog Charlie has stopped eating. He's never been overly excited to eat as some of my past dogs have; he just eats a little bit throughout the day. But recently he has stopped altogether. Once he gets really hungry he will eat a little, but he's going the whole day without food. He's on purina puppy chow right now and he's 10 months old. Both of his parents were picky eaters as well. He's up on all his vaccinations. When my son feeds him table scraps, he eats them very excitedly. Have we ruined him and now he won't eat his food anymore? |

| Your son might be thinking he is being nice by feeding table scraps, but this can be fatal. Of course, he is waiting for the "good stuff". I would insist that he not get any human food. There are better choices out there than Puppy Chow. Look for a product that does not contain corn and has meat as a main ingredient (no by-products). Go to a petstore, not a grocery or department store. I use Nutro Natural Ultra. Start by offering the new food as a treat until he gets use to it so you don't upset his stomach by changing his food too quickly. I would also start giving him Nutristat during this adjustment period since he might not be eating enough. This question comes up very often and most will say Yorkies are very picky. I have owned Yorkies for 25 years and, honestly, I have never had a picky Yorkie. I don't know if I'm just lucky or am more disciplined in my feeding habits. |

| It's been going on for so long and my son is only 1 and doesn't understand why he can't feed the dog. Besides when my son is finished eating, he usually throws it on the ground and the dog gets it before I can. Well, thanks for the replies, I think I know what I'm up against. |

You could also try to give him a scram egg in the am, that will give him some extra protein to jump start his day, or even some plain non fat yogurt. I hope you find all the info you need for your baby! | |

| If you're free feeding him, you might consider putting him on a feeding schedule. I swear by my schedule for potty-training (since I read about it and it seems to work), but I think the schedule keeps him from being a picky eater too. Oh, and my furbaby eats Nutro puppy formula. He really likes it.

Now, if your son was a teenager who was throwing chocolate bars and beer on the floor, I'd worry.
