If you're free feeding him, you might consider putting him on a feeding schedule. I swear by my schedule for potty-training (since I read about it and it seems to work), but I think the schedule keeps him from being a picky eater too.
Oh, and my furbaby eats Nutro puppy formula. He really likes it.
