| Dr Harvey’s, Balance It Issues Hi. I need help. I just got my sample today from Dr Harvey’s and wanted to try it out. Measured out a scoop and added a scoop of boiling water. I decided to use egg for the protein. The instructions said to use 4-6 ounces of protein. The egg carton listed the amount of protein for 1 egg as being 6 grams, converted to ounces = 0.21 ounces. 4 ounces divided by 0.21 ounces = 19.04 eggs! This can’t be right.... So, frustrated, I searched YT for Dr Harvey’s, and someone mentioned Balance It so I looked that up. Plugged in some items to come up with a recipe and it said I needed to add 4.5 teaspoons of their product. Okay, so I add it to my cart, but before I buy it I want to read the label. All ingredients look good, until I see the calories. 10.35 Kcal. 1 Kcal = 1000 calories, so I’d be adding 46,575 calories to a day’s worth of food???? What am I doing wrong? Small dogs only require about 200-400 calories per day. People only require 1000-4000, 8000 for some athletes, per day... depending on weight and activity levels. I made the sample up with 2 eggs and divided it between my two pups. It smelled very good, and they absolutely loved it, but I’m afraid of them not getting enough protein. I will not feed them 19.whatever eggs in one day, or even a week. I would never feed a large dog 19 eggs in one day. Just sad that this makes no sense to me.

| So i go to feed them today. I’m using their regular dog food as the protein although I haven’t measured it out correctly. I just gave them the regular amount wet with water, fix the food mixed in together put it down for them and now they keep looking at each other or I should say at each others’ bowls. I think they’re looking for the egg they had last night. They are eating it but not quite as enthusiastically as last night when it had egg in it. Think I am going to call and ask Dr Harvey’s ....

| I don’t have experience with Dr. Harvey’s (not a fan), but I assume they mean 4-6oz of the protein “source”, not the actual protein (so 4-6oz of whole egg measured after cooking). I have used BalanceIt. While it is a good product, the amino acids in it do produce an unappealing scent (and probably taste). While I could not find the calories per teaspoon information, I did look at the ingredient list again. Vitamin/mineral supplements without added fats tend to contain very few, if any, calories. I would venture to guess there is a typo. It is more like 5-10 calories per day coming from the supplement. You might also be interested in Chef’s Complete.

| OK. Too funny. I got it figured out but I called them anyway and after I thought about it I thought they probably don’t mean actual grams of protein or ounces of protein they mean “protein source”. 1 Egg = 1 oz. I have such a headache. Lol.

| If you have questions, call Dr. Harveys. The customer service is incredible. I am currently feeding my Lollie and Lacie Dr. Harvey's Veg-To-Bowl. I had a lot of questions before I started feeding and called the company. They were incredible - answered all of my questions and even sent a follow up email to be sure all of my questions were answered. All of this took place after ordering a saple and prior to placing a full sized order. |

First of all, I am sorry for taking so long to respond. I read several reports regarding the grain free/canine heart disease issue before I started feeding Dr. Harvey's. I can only find the link to the one on AKC’s website so that you read for yourself -- https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nu...ee-diet-alert/ . The other report suggests that the data in the FDA report was flawed and misleading because it wasn’t complete. The information collected was provided voluntarily by vets who wished to participate in the study. Sadly there isn’t a scientific way to determine all the factors that caused the dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) because complete data wasn’t available. Ultimately what I took away from the info was that it wasn’t necessarily “grain free” that was the problem, it was the ingredients used to replace the grain - and where they were sourced. My Lollie and Lacie have only been on Dr. Harvey’s Veg-To-Bowl Fine Ground since the beginning of February. So far they are enjoying their meals more than ever (even Ms. Picky Pants, Lacie), and all outward appearances indicate that they are thriving. If you have questions, I would strongly recommend contacting Dr. Harvey’s. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful –and if the person you are talking to can’t answer your questions, he/she will find someone who can. | |

I decided to change foods because Finny is getting older and was declining in awareness and activity, and her seizures were increasing more so in frequency than intensity. Chloe was itching a lot, which I suspect was either an allergy to chicken or possibly a yeast thing. They’ve been eating Dr Harvey’s now for about a month and I am super excited about the changes I’m seeing in both my dogs. Finny has so much more energy and her seizures have stopped almost completely, and the two she did have were so much less intense and shorter in duration. Chloe still itches some, but much less. I was feeding Purina ProPlan Savor, Focus, and Bright Mind dry food, mixed. Thinking now maybe the preservatives in kibble are not good. Dr. Harvey’s is freeze dried so no preservatives needed.

| dog food While my Yorkie was still alive, I switched her to Dr. Harvey's vegetable mix, and she did quite well on it. She enjoyed it, and it helped keep her alive for a while by minimizing the levels of protein, and staving off her kidney disease. |

Yes, that is a big plus with this food, being able to control the amount of protein.
