First of all, I am sorry for taking so long to respond. I read several reports regarding the grain free/canine heart disease issue before I started feeding Dr. Harvey's. I can only find the link to the one on AKC’s website so that you read for yourself --
https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nu...ee-diet-alert/ . The other report suggests that the data in the FDA report was flawed and misleading because it wasn’t complete. The information collected was provided voluntarily by vets who wished to participate in the study. Sadly there isn’t a scientific way to determine all the factors that caused the dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) because complete data wasn’t available.
Ultimately what I took away from the info was that it wasn’t necessarily “grain free” that was the problem, it was the ingredients used to replace the grain - and where they were sourced.
My Lollie and Lacie have only been on Dr. Harvey’s Veg-To-Bowl Fine Ground since the beginning of February. So far they are enjoying their meals more than ever (even Ms. Picky Pants, Lacie), and all outward appearances indicate that they are thriving.
If you have questions, I would strongly recommend contacting Dr. Harvey’s. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful –and if the person you are talking to can’t answer your questions, he/she will find someone who can.
