I hate this so bad. I hate using these pesticides on our dogs but I just found a tick on Jackson, 2nd one this year and in MD it will only get worse... Ugh just hate these little buggers. Frontline seems safer to me than Advantix but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work and we still see ticks when I use it, and Nexgard is by the makers of Frontline so I'm wondering if it'll even be effective either... was considering using Nexgard and then maybe using a 'natural' spray on top of it (one that's actually safe, and has good reviews, etc) for when we go hiking or in heavily wooded areas. But today we were just in our yard and he got a tick sooo, ugh. So I'm going to have to bite the bullet and just go purchase something tomorrow because I can't deal with ticks. They're so gross. And I freak out way more than I should picking them off him hahaha especially after seeing so many of them around here through the years.

I know, me too. Ticks scare me. I just can't.use anything right now, I'm too traumatized.

I've used Cedarcide cedar oil spray for a few years. It's more of a repellent, but if sprayed directly it will kill on contact. You can get a quart for about $30. I have the 2 oz and 4 oz spritzers so I don't have to use the large quart bottle. I just take them outside and mainly focus on their legs and side coat. You can do the top of their head you just have to spray your hands and carefully sweep in on. You have to avoid the face and wee- wee area for obvious reasons. This is where I get it....

It does have a strong cedar smell so be warned...You can spray your own legs when going in the woods and I also use it for around the house without having to worry about toxic chemicals around the dogs. So if you don't use it for the dogs it still has a use.

I tried another product called Triple Sure but it was useless. I took both bottles out and sprayed a couple of ants. The ant sprayed with the Cedacide was dead in a few seconds the ant sprayed with Triple Sure just cleaned off his antennas and kept it moving, so I returned it.

My vet says they are made by taking a drop of the med and just dropping it on the pill so it spreads out and you don't know what part of the pill it's on. We figured out a way around it. We smash the pill and dissolve it in water real good and pull it up in a syringe and put it in a small amount of food. It has worked that way real good for hte last few years. I don't thiknk Nexgard will work that way as it's a beef chewable. It is the best flea preventative I've ever used. I haven't seen a flea here in 2 months which is a miracle. I live out in the boonies and usually they are everywhere. Ticks also. I once woke up in the night with over 100 ticks on me stuck.

I live in Texas where there are plenty of fleas! I don't use flea prevention because I don't have fleas!! Why? I cannot explain it but I don't. I'm not nuts ( all though some may think so) but personally I think calling someone nuts for saying they don't have fleas is a bit out of line. I realize you are new and welcome to YT

I thought it was insulting myself. Just goes to show how everyone reads things differently.

I don't really label it as name calling though. BUT, I agree, it isgood for the new person to know the rules because it was a bit questionable imo.

SORRY< I should have put LOL. I fully meant it in a joking manner since they said Illinois had no fleas. That was totallly not true. I am in illinois and they are atrocious here. I guess I never thought nuts was namecalling. I guess way out there was a better way of putting it. LOL. But those chewables are hard to use. THey have to be given on a full stomach of CANNED food. Thats from the manufacture. Or your dog can vomit them back up. And at 25.00 a pill that is a big waste. And you can't cut them in half as you don't know where on the pill the active ingredient is. It isn't in the whole pill. A machine drops it on the treat.

Strike that question. Here is my take on your postings. Since YOU have fleas and live in IL, you are ASSUMING that megansmomma is making things up since yous stated "that was totally not true". You may not be name calling, but basically you are now accusing her of lying....so I hardly think you were joking by asking if she is nuts.

Here is the bottom line: She has no fleas and you have a bunch. I have no fleas and my neighbors have a bunch.

I am not nuts nor am I lying. I can give you my vet for a reference. She knows I don't purchase flea prevention and she sees my pups a lot and they do not have fleas.

OH...and btw, she did not say Illinois has no fleas. She said that she lives in Illinois and does not have fleas.

Huge difference and that may be why there is so much confusion here.

I think that she (Megansmomma) simply meant that she doesn't have fleas. Her dogs don't have fleas. And where she lives in northern IL doesn't have a climate that has many fleas. I think calling her nuts wasn't cool, but that's just my read on it...

Even joking it's against the rules to call names.
