Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | At some point, yes, removal of baby teeth is absolutely needed bc they will otherwise cause rotting due to all the gunk that will collect btwn the baby and adult teeth that are also there. Also, the crowding can damage the bite. Unfortunately, they really don't always come loose on their own...yorkies almost always need some baby teeth removed. Usually, we all wait until they get spayed/neutered and have them removed at that point.

| Yorkies tend to have more of a problem with retained teeth than other breeds so you may not have experienced this problem before if you have not had many Yorkies. Retained teeth can cause horrible problems and disease of the mouth if not removed. |

| Most people get the left over baby teeth removed when they get them fixed that way there only under once. Leaving the teeth can cause the teeth to become unaligned and mess up there bite and stuff. It can also cause food to get stuck and decay the teeth.

| I just had Remy neutered last week at 10 months old and the vet had to pull 4 of his baby teeth that did not fall out. As the others stated, as well as what my vet told me, it is best to have them removed because it does mess with their bite and it pushes the adult teeth out of alignment. Along with other mouth issues.

YT 500 Club Member | Behavior changes Does getting them spayed alter their personality at all? Should I do it soon or wait til she's at least a year? She's 8 months now. I just read so much on all these temperaments of these dogs changing on people and my Izzy is so sweet that I don't want to do anything to alter her temperament if I can avoid it. She isn't aggressive or shy. She's perfect |

| After reading these posts, I could kick myself. I just had my 7-1/2 month old male Yorkie neutered and the vet noticed he still had 2 or 3 baby teeth still in his mouth. I think one is growing right next to an adult tooth as a matter of fact. The vet said he would charge me $x amount per tooth to extract them while he was under and I declined. I asked him if it was ok to wait until they fall out naturally (since I didn't want added discomfort to his being since he was going to be sore from the castration) and he said it should be ok. Now I'm kicking myself. What do I do now? The last thing I want to do is bring him back and put him under just to have a couple teeth removed. He has various harder chew toys (elk antler, buddy stick, and a small all natural beef kneecap bone) which I give him occasionally and I'm hoping they contribute to the eventual release of his baby teeth. If not...... Please help! |

YT 500 Club Member | Izzy actually lost her last puppy tooth two days before she got spayed. And Vet said her teeth are in great shape. by the way, her breath is so so so much better now. I let her lick my face again now. |
