| Bad Breath from Royal Canine? Hi guys...since the "recall scare" ...I have thrown away the IAMS puppy dry kibbles and replaced my puppies food with Royal Canine Puppy. I also heard some bad things about IAMS here on Yorkie Talk which is why I switched too. BUT now, my puppy's breath smells bad. I brush his teeth a couple times a week but since switching, he has bad breath!! How can a puppy this cute have killer breath?? LOL Anyways, has anyone experienced this with your yorkie? |

| I switched Pepper's food a few times, looking for the dry kibble he'd eat. He actually likes Royal Canin for Yorkies but his breath is normal... Is your baby teething? Maybe leftover baby teeth are the cause?

| oh, I thought your baby is a little older . I don't think the teeth would be a problem yet, they can lose baby teeth till about 6th month, he probably just started teething...

| Bad breath from Royal Canin Freyja gets killer fish-breath from RC unless I keep her teeth brushed. |

| your baby is probably teething and may have retained teeth which smells HORRIBLE. I would take him to the vet to check for the retained teeth.

| Roxy has been on Royal Canine from the beginning, and we have never had any trouble with bad puppy breath. Ok, it's not minty fresh, but it isn't problem bad breath. I would double check with my vet just to make sure there isn't something going on with him. Better safe than sorry!!

| Generally it's caused by what they are eating.

| Regarding Bad Breath First Time Visitor so bare with me. My sweet princess, Ebadoo, is 4 years old and 6 lbs and has always struggled with bad breath. As a puppy, she just never would let me brush her teeth . I did however, try "everything" on the market for bad breath including additives for her water, chewables, the "greenie" bones, basil paste, clove oil, etc. Brought her to the vets and even spent $250.00 to have her teeth cleaned to address the "tartar" theory as being the reason for the bad breath & guess what....she had sweet breath for maybe a week and then it was right back to the same so that can't be the reason. Plus we have a minature schnauzer who eats the same exact food and is 11 yrs old and has sweet breath!! The one big difference with the girls is Ebby, my schnauzer gives sweet dry kisses and Ebbadoo, my Yorkie gives wet ones so I'm convinced it's all saliva related and must be coming from the tummy.....like an enzyme thing? Am I the only one out there with this problem? I don't want to over-dose my baby with breath mints! Any advise?? |

He may have gingivitis or need a professional cleaning by your vet. My Yorkie has to have her teeth cleaned twice a year because of gingivitis and I can tell when it's time because of her STINKYYYY BREATH | |

Yes, it could be something besides tartar. Gastrointestinal issues could probably cause it and liver disease can. Is she playful, energetic and generally healthy?

YT 1000 Club Member | Roxie also eats RC. She too has the worst breath ever. I've posted several times about it I think. She's 1 1/2 and has all her adult teeth. When she was old enough to be spay I had whatever teeth pulled that needed to be. I've also tried several things to combat the odor to no avail. It is kind of frustrating. I don't know if there's anything you can do for it. Roxie is very playful and springy and has a good appetite. Last edited by roxies_mom; 10-13-2008 at 06:20 AM. |
